In their Inclusion #Brunch today, Wednesday 29th November, our #Ethnicity Forum will be closing Islamophobia Awareness Month with a discussion on Muslim women and the hijab. Hosting the session will be Najash Mohammed, who will be discussing Muslim women who wear a hijab, how they are perceived and judged, as well as the perceptions of Muslim women who choose not to wear one. She will also celebrate prominent Muslim Hijab wearing females who have made a mark, despite the negativity and bias that they face. November is Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM), and here at The Adecco Group UK & Ireland, 2023 marks the second year that The Adecco Group will be acknowledging this important month. Islamophobia Awareness Month is a campaign founded in 2012 by a group of Muslim organisations to raise awareness of Islamophobia. Today, Friday 24th November, they will be hosting a Food For Thought virtual session as they discuss the impact of islamophobia on children. With guest speaker Fatima Karim hosting the session, she will be showcasing stats and research findings/discoveries around the impact islamophobia has on children, as well as how this can impact people who aren’t Muslims. She will also give a glimpse into her own personal experience with islamophobia, and what impact it has had on her childhood, her mental health as well as how it has influenced her journey towards adulthood. Today they will be focusing on the topic of #DementiaAwareness ❤️ Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. ❤️Alzheimer’s is a specific disease (accounting for 60-80% of dementia cases) and Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia. ❤️ Dementia is a group of symptoms associated with a decline of memory, reasoning or other thinking skills. Many different types of dementia exist, and many conditions cause it. Here at The Adecco Group UK & Ireland, we are recognising International Men’s Day. IMD celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. It is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all. It encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man 💙 💡 This year's theme is "Zero Male Suicide". Current research shows that men have a suicide rate 3 times higher than women. In 2021, 4,704 men in England, Wales and Scotland took their own lives. With 2020 figures from Northern Ireland (160), this means nearly 5,000 men per year lose their lives this way. This is the equivalent of 13 per day.
