On International Women’s Day we are celebrating the girls and women who have conquered barriers and found joy in learning! We are inspired by Tesfanesh, a medical student who once dropped out of school in Ethiopia. We recognise Annet’s strength as she finishes high school with two young children in Uganda. We are championing Madalitso as she uses her education to make choices about her future in Malawi. Today is the 5th International Day to Protect Education from Attack. A perfect time to reflect that c. 15% of schools in #Ethiopia are either partially or severely damaged and 3.6M children on average currently lack access to safe and protective learning environments. In the heart of East Africa, a revolution is unfolding. It’s not one of conflict or conquest, but of enlightenment and empowerment. The region, rich in diversity and potential, is reimagining its educational landscape to forge a future that is resilient, inclusive, and fit for the challenges of the 21st century. Delegates' insights will be invaluable as we explore the scale up of gender, inclusion and safeguarding approaches. The project is supported by the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange, a joint endeavour with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. This month we launched our new research project looking at government scale up of gender, inclusion and safeguarding approaches across Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda. Stakeholders gathered in Kampala to discuss their experiences of what successful scale up looks like. This week our Link Uganda team are excited to join the delegates to the International Day of Education post-event high level policy dialogue under the theme “Learning for Lasting Peace”. Last week we were honoured to host a delegation of VIPs at Link's offices to discuss education in #Ethiopia and share some of Link's milestone results in our 17 years working in the country.
