In the lead up to #COP16 we're asking, are sustainability professionals going to follow it and what are the outputs they want to see? Results from a recent survey on integrating nature into business conducted by Little Blue Research found that: 🌱 Almost all respondents are planning to keep up with the progress of #COP16 (over 90% either through online updates, reading summaries or by attending in person). 🌱Regarding outputs, respondents wanted to see standardised nature indicators & metrics (63%) and mandatory disclosures (51%) most (see the post graphic). To read more about the results from our white paper please use this link https://lnkd.in/g-CYMmCv For those who are interested in work on metrics - The Nature Positive Initiative is building consensus on a universal set of metrics and have launched a consultation to provide feedback on a consultation brief entitled ‘the State of Nature Metrics to Drive Nature Positive Outcomes’ please see the link in the chat. - The UK Business & Biodiversity Forum are also working on a project to understand the ‘basket of metrics’ that will be of use to government and businesses for understanding their impacts and dependencies on nature. #PartOfThePlan #Nature #Biodiversity

With two weeks to go to #COP16 and with more than 400 organisations already committed to adopting the recommendations from the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). IEMA have launched a guide on "Business Actions on Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD): A primer on roles and reporting using the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework." The guide has been developed to help those getting to grips with the recommendations and implementing them within their organisations. Our founder Dr Stephanie Hime, Marina Bradford and Lesley Wilson were the lead authors of the work. A big thank you to all of the reviewers involved who helped to produce the guidance including: Jenny Merriman, Chris Moss, Alessandra Melis, Candice Dott and members of the IEMA BaNC Steering Group. Ecological economist at Oxford Uni. Biodiversity Net Gain | Offsets | Infrastructure sustainability | Biodiversity finance. Advisor to UK govt & biodiversity strategy consultant. Co-host "Economics for Rebels" podcast
Our team's gained a ton of new followers recently so wanna do a quick re-introduction to the Nature-positive Hub at the Department of Biology, University of Oxford: https://lnkd.in/emTex94C We're a team of nature finance, business & biodiversity & infrastructure sustainability experts led by Prof Dame E.J. Milner-Gulland & Prof Joe W Bull. I'm the Postdoc coordinating the day-to-day nature finance work, Dr Thomas White & (our resident former particle physicist) Dr Talitha Bromwich coordinating day to day biodiversity footprinting & business strategy work, Dr Niak Sian Koh coordinating our cross-Europe Nature-positive work, Dr Molly Grace coordinating work on measuring biodiversity change & new recruit Sarah Gall bringing land-use optimisation skills to English nature finance. And the best bit of certainly my job is the incredible students we work with - e.g. in the nature finance & infrastructure sustainability stream, I co-supervise a team of 9 working on everything from improving the design of Biodiversity Net Gain, biodiversity credits, the public disclosure of the world's companies with the greatest influence over the biosphere, reconciling environment & development under China's astonishing infrastructure boom & ways of holding institutions accountable for their past impacts on biodiversity. To give a flavour of what we do, this year we've published work calling for conservation to embrace putting social justice at its core https://lnkd.in/e6rDaBMt, on how to ensure the scientific credibility of voluntary carbon & biodiversity markets https://lnkd.in/etqBeZTF, highlighting major governance issues in BNG & potential solutions for increasing funding of English nature recovery https://lnkd.in/e4R5JqJP, outlined a research agenda for businesses to contribute to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework https://lnkd.in/eRDSnDjB, done a deep analysis of methodological issues in organisational biodiversity footprinting https://lnkd.in/e4cDxmV3, have 2 upcoming reviews on Biodiversity Credits eg https://lnkd.in/eETnETeX, exploring challenges & solutions for upscaling high-quality nature investment in Europe https://lnkd.in/eMc4gP9q. And we work very closely with amazingly gifted friends all over the place, including Dr Nicola Ranger's team at Resilient Planet Finance Lab @UniofOxford, The Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery led by Yadvinder Malhi, WildCRU, Nature-Based Solutions Initiative, Nature Positive Universities, Nature Positive Initiative, The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd,. Department of Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen. We also do consulting, if the project interests us, & if the project isn't about how to make the most money from nature but is about how to do things in ways that are scientifically-credible & deliver the best outcomes for nature.

New news on the Phasing in of the EUDR - thank you Caroline Busse for sharing this.
🚨 EUDR Updates 🚨 The EU Commission has just proposed an extra 12 months of phasing-in time, responding to expressed concerns by international partners about their state of preparedness. If approved by the European Parliament and the Council, this would make the EUDR applicable on 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 for micro- and small enterprises. The extra 12 months could serve as a phasing-in period to ensure proper and effective implementation. The Commission will publish additional guidance documents and the latest FAQ with over 40 new additional answers today. I will put the link in the comments. The Information System where businesses will register their due diligence statements will accept early registrations in early November and be fully operational in December. The Commission is intensifying dialogues with concerned countries, such that the country benchmarking system will be finalized by 30 June 2025. 👉🏼 Here's the press release: https://lnkd.in/dK8TtfA2

In the lead up to COP16, we will be continuing to share some key results from our recent research on integrating nature into business decision making, based on a survey conducted with more than 170 sustainability professionals. This week we will be focusing on the top challenges that respondents identified when integrating nature into business decision-making. Supply chain analysis and designing targets for nature are the top two challenges identified by respondents, with over half of respondents from organisations (53%) identified supply chain analysis as one of the most challenging activities. The survey also found that materiality assessments are identified as the third most challenging by both organisations (37%) and consultants (37%). If you face any of the challenges identified, then get in touch and see how we can help. Little Blue Research has experience supporting our clients to overcome challenges across different stages of nature integration, including: 🌟 Carrying out supply-chain analyses and location-based mappings 🌟 Conducting materiality assessments to determine areas of focus 🌟 Designing nature strategies and helping to set targets for nature. #PartOFThePlan, #Biodivesity, #Nature

Last week we launched the results of our recent research on integrating nature into business decision making, based on a survey conducted with more than 170 sustainability professionals. In the lead up to COP16 we will be putting a spotlight on some key results. This week we focus on the key drivers for action on nature. We asked respondents what the main drivers for action on nature in their organisation were. An average score was calculated for each driver based on the respondent's level of agreement, where 1 equals strongly disagree and 5 equals strongly agree. Adapting to or preparing for changes in policy was identified as the main driver for action with an average score of 4.3/5 (for overall agreement – see the graphic accompanying this post). This is unsurprising given the pace of legislative change seen in both the UK and Europe where most respondents were based. With COP16 less than a month away we will be looking to see if further drivers for action become apparent or whether there are further developments relating to corporate disclosures. In the meantime, businesses should consider getting ahead of the curve by starting to: 🌟 Review and engage with key resources, e.g. Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) in a box, @Business4Nature's Nature Strategy guides 🌟 Keep up to date with new research and announcements during the next month when many will be sharing the outputs of their own research 🌟 Consider piloting approaches at a small scale to understand what is involved when integrating nature into decision-making and what would work for your company #PartOFThePlan, #Biodivesity, #Nature
