We appreciate the creative “Patients First” thinking of LivaNova UKI team team member Natalie Bailey. She helped a Consultant Neurosurgeon in Hull, UK, move an important VNS Therapy™ procedure out of the main hospital to a day case surgery unit. Mr. Adam Razak worked tirelessly, with Natalie’s support, to make this move so patients could get more timely battery replacements for their VNS Therapy devices. Mr. Razak and his colleagues are among the first in the country to conduct battery changes in a dedicated day surgery facility. This change lowers the numbers of procedure cancellations or delays, eliminates the need for hospital admission, and reduces the waiting list for battery replacements. It also alleviates pressure on theatre sessions at the main hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary. “The new Day Surgery Centre at Castle Hill Hospital offers a much more modern and suitable facility in which to be providing VNS Therapy battery replacements, and we’re proud to be involved in delivering this type of surgery, and supporting local patients, in such a pioneering way,” Natalie said.

    Chief Innovation Officer

Innovation flourishes under productive dissent and conflict. It is one of the keys for achieving meaningful progress and impact.     The teams that I have had the privilege to lead often feel and experience that I push for this. At first it might feel uncomfortable to many. But true breakthroughs only happen if every person in the room feels safe to give and receive feedback- to tell their truths. It is an essential step in innovation as it leads to a shared reality around issues, challenges and what we need to do next.     Too often innovation communities are burdened with a culture of toxic positivity where senior leaders demand “good news” only cultures that foster mediocrity despite the talent and passion of their teams. I believe almost all of us have worked for leaders that exhibit this limiting approach at least once in our careers.     I recently spent a few days with some of the innovation leaders from our Houston office who invested time aligning on what we want our innovation culture to be- both for our business and for our people. At LivaNova, we unite to provide hope for patients and their families through innovative medical technologies, delivering life-changing improvements for both the Head and Heart. But we can’t get to the best of what we can provide to patients unless we are willing to spend time aligning on what our guiding principles are and will be:  Driving health innovation that truly matters. How do you and your teams align on what truly matters to you? Leave your thoughts in the comments. And learn more about what we’re up to at https://lnkd.in/eUJyCYGr  #innovation #deepalignment #sharedreality #vision #imperative #hope #patientsfirst #medtech

In London recently, 25 senior leaders met at Talent & Leadership Connect, a cross-functional meeting of international leaders from LivaNova’s European, MEA, and APAC regions. They engaged and collaborated on key strategic topics such as innovation, culture, market expansion, external collaboration, ESG, talent, and data analytics. The Board of Directors and ELT members attended select items on the agenda, giving participants an opportunity to speak informally with the Company’s top leaders. It was a lively, energized, and fun meet-up, and we’re grateful to both organizers and attendees for making this engaging three-day event happen. #WeAreLivaNova #WorkThatMatters

"You really realize that your job is not really ... about components, but it's about the people,” said Beatrice Ferrante, an industrial engineer. “So you really work with surgeons, with perfusionists, and ultimately with the patients, and you really feel like the work is important.” Hear from Beatrice and others in our Munich office and Cardiopulmonary manufacturing facility about how they do #WorkThatMatters. #WeAreLivaNova

At TEDx Mirandola in June 2024, speakers from leading companies in the biomedical district of Mirandola, Italy, and beyond explored the theme “ONE HEALTH - Sustainable for Human,Animal,Environment.” The theme – which explores how individual well-being is intrinsically linked to that of the surrounding area, society, and the planet – is also the basis of the environmental sustainability path adopted by LivaNova in the development of its Mirandola production site. Marco Medici, Sr. Technical Leader, Disposables Engineering for LivaNova Cardiopulmonary, detailed some of the optimizations the Mirandola production site has implemented as part of LivaNova’s goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. They include: • Separation of plastics amongst cleanroom waste to increase recycling • Packaging redesign projects to reduce waste • Optimization of lighting and room temperature control to reduce waste • Improvements to the degassing energy and sterilization cycle to reduce ethylene oxide (EO) and nitrogen (N2) consumption “Collaboration of ideas and actions has been critical in allowing us to take the first decisive steps in recognizing sustainability as a central theme for our site,” Medici said on stage. “Sustainability is a challenge that can only be met together, beyond the business differences of each of the realities in our district.”

For the second consecutive year, LivaNova hosted a delegation of 20 master's students from the University of Palermo on an educational trip to the Mirandola Biomedical Valley. The students toured LivaNova’s manufacturing plant and research and development laboratories. They also attended a lesson on cardiopulmonary bypass and a course on the use of virtual prototyping techniques in the design process of oxygenators. The students showed a lot of interest in seeing the practical applications of their Biomedical Engineering Course. #WorkThatMatters
