Local councils are sounding the alarm on the housing crisis 🚨 Tenant’s union Housing Action Teesside are calling for large-scale council housing to address rising homelessness. 📈Since July 2023, rents in Stockton have risen by 7.9%, contributing to an 83% rise in homelessness. Many households remain stuck in damp, mouldy and unfit-for-purpose temporary accommodation while waiting for council housing. Housing Action suggests building more council housing could help relieve waiting lists and provide a fairer alternative to private renting. 🏚️But what if vacant homes could be part of the solution? By converting unused properties, through adaptive reuse or property guardianship, councils could provide housing relief and ease pressure on the rental market - while addressing a critical social need. 🏡Is the future of housing in transforming what’s left behind? https://lnkd.in/ekjd99ih #HousingCrisis #SocialHousing #Stockton #CouncilHousing #CommunityHousing #UrbanRenewal #AfforadbleHousing #PropertyGuardianship #LiveinGuardians

Once the backdrop for P.Diddy’s 2007 music video, this $10 million dollar Hollywood mansion has become a cautionary tale for property neglect. Abandoned for over a decade, it’s been overtaken by squatters and graffiti. Following P Diddy’s recent scandal, taggers swarmed the property, with “Diddy was here” scrawled on the roof. ⚠️ Neighbours call the property “a headache” and a safety hazard. ⚠️ 🚨“Every time we call 911, squatters are cleared out, but they return within hours.” Police have been called several times in just the past week, with reports of violent incidents, including an attack on a neighbour with a “steel rebar and a beer bottle” 📉🏘️Despite city orders to secure the property, conditions have worsened, raising serious concerns about community safety and local property values. The house, once a symbol of luxury, now stands as a stark example of what happens when high-value properties are left unmanged. How would you feel if your property value dropped because of a neighbouring abandoned house? #PropertyManagement #LuxuryRealEstate #PDiddy #CelebrityHomes #Mansion #AbandonedHouse #VacantHouse #HollyWoodMansion #RealEstateNews #HollywoodHomes #Squatters #HousingCrisis #LiveInGuardians

How a Swedish Designer is Giving Abandoned Homes a Stylish New Beginning... Swedish designer Anton Wörmann is transforming Japan’s abandoned properties, known as akiya - by blending Scandinavian minimalism with Japanese design. His take on the ‘Japandi’ style has gained him over 1.5 million followers, capturing global attention for his creative reuse of forgotten spaces. His latest project in Tokyo’s Nakano district demonstrates the potential of upcycled materials and local craftsmanship to breathe new life into neglected properties. In a culture where demolition is often the go-to, Anton’s work is reshaping what’s possible for vacant spaces. For those of us in the UK, Anton’s approach reminds us that even the most neglected spaces can be revitalized- whether through innovative design or new ways of securing and utilizing vacant properties. If you could redesign any abandoned building, what would you turn it into? #Japandi #ScandanavianDesign #MinimalistDesign #InteriorDesign #Architecture #PropertyTransformation #SustainableDesign #CreativeReuse #RealEstateInnovation #VacantSpaces #Akiya #RealEstateNews #DesignNews #LiveinGuardians

How would you feel if 70% of the homes on your street were left empty for over six years? Whitmore Heath, once a vibrant community, faced a grim reality after HS2 bought and abandoned around 50 properties following the rail project’s cancellation. Up to 70% of homes have been left empty for over six years, attracting squatters who turned million-pound homes into cannabis farms. Police uncovered 182 marijuana plants in one raid, while residents reported religious cults breaking in and children living in unsafe conditions. Those who stayed in the area reported feeling “imprisoned in their own homes”,mouring the loss of community. One resident voiced their frustration “A £1.4 million property was taken over by squatters, which could have been avoided if it had been rented out.” Despite HS2 deploying security, the emotional, social and financial toll on the community persists. Whitmore Heath serves as a powerful reminder of the critical need to secure properties the moment they become vacant to prevent squatting, crime, and the decline of communities🔒 Sources: https://lnkd.in/eXX5kZRW https://lnkd.in/e4nSdrzf #Stafford #WhitmoreHeath #HS2 #SquattersRights #SquattingIssues #Squatters #PropertyLaw #CrimePrevention #RealEstateRisk #RealEstateNews #NeighbourhoodSafety
