About last week... 🌎 Our CEO, John Neal, and Corporate Affairs Director, Rebekah Clement, took part in a range of events and discussions as part of New York Climate Week – showcasing Lloyd’s role as the insurer of the transition. We hosted a flagship event to formalise our long-standing partnership with the World Bank Group Guarantees (which you can read more about here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eGdvXjQZ), and put forward how our valuable marine expertise can be used to de-risk the decarbonisation of shipping at the United Nations Ocean For The Future event. 🌊 It's always insightful to meet with colleagues from across our Sustainable Markets Initiative network and hear more about how our industry is a key pillar to insuring and ensuring the move to a lower carbon economy. #NYCW #Sustainability #Insurance

Did someone say fresh talent?! 📣 Earlier this month we welcomed our 2024 Early Careers cohort to Lloyd’s. The 28 apprentices and graduates, including one trainee from Probitas, joined an engaging 2-week programme with MDA Training as part of their Lloyd’s induction. Not only did this give them a deep-dive into the world of insurance, but also included insightful soft-skills and emotional intelligence sessions to get them ready for the world of work. You can find an informative video of our induction on our newly refreshed Lloyd’s Early Careers website, alongside case studies, application tips and information on how we support our trainees. Special shout out to one of our amazing apprentices, Jaycee Rigden who actually led on the revamp project! Sir Charles Roxburgh named as next Chair of Lloyd’s. Following an extensive search, the Council of Lloyd’s has confirmed Sir Charles Roxburgh KCB as our next Chair, subject to regulatory approval and consent from the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. We expect Sir Charles to join us on 1 May 2025, succeeding Bruce Carnegie-Brown after an eight-year term. #LloydsPeople #Insurance #Leadership

Today we have announced our 2024 Half Year results, which represent a combination of disciplined underwriting, smart organic growth and real strength in the Lloyd’s balance sheet. Lloyd’s CEO, John Neal commented: "This is good news for both investors in the Lloyd’s insurance marketplace and our customers as we continue to support them in an increasingly risky world.” The key figures reported in Lloyd’s 2024 Half Year results are:  ✔ Gross written premium of £30.6bn (HY 2023: £29.3bn)  ✔ Underwriting profit of £3.1bn (HY 2023: £2.5bn)  ✔ Combined ratio of 83.7% (HY 2023: 85.2%)  ✔ Underlying combined ratio of 80.6% (HY 2023: 81.6%)  ✔ Investment return of £2.1bn (HY 2023: £1.8bn)  ✔ Result before tax of £4.9bn (HY 2023: £3.9bn)  ✔ Total capital, reserves and subordinated loan notes of £43.5bn (FY 2023: £45.3bn)  ✔ Central solvency ratio of 520% (FY 2023: 503%)  ✔ Market-wide solvency ratio of 206% (FY 2023: 207%) Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/exTgKzTJ #FinancialResults #Performance #Leadership

Our financial strength rating from AM Best has been upgraded to A+ (superior), from A (excellent), and our long term issuer credit rating revised to ‘AA-’ (superior) outlook stable from ‘A+’ (excellent) outlook positive. Ratings are a key signifier of our resilience and attractiveness as a market, giving our stakeholders confidence to do business with Lloyd’s. They're also a testament to the progress we've made in recent years to strengthen the performance of our market making it more profitable, sustainable and efficient – as demonstrated in Lloyd's 2023 financial results.
