It's not too late to register! Join our upcoming #webinar, exploring the extent of harm, the frequency of reporting, and the extent of safety training taking place in workplaces globally. On Tuesday, we will be joined by a panel of occupational safety and health experts from the National Safety Council, International Labour Organization, the International Fund for Fishing Safety and Construction Health and Safety NZ (CHASNZ) to discuss how Poll #data can be used to improve reporting, training and other interventions to reduce workplace harm across the world. We are an independent global charity that helps to protect life and property at sea, on land, and in the air.
About us
Lloyd's Register Foundation is a charity with a mission to protect life and property and to advance transport and engineering education and research. We became fully operational in 2013 but we draw on a long and distinguished history dating back to 1760 through our trading arm, Lloyd’s Register Group Limited (LR), with its tradition of public benefit. Our vision is to be known worldwide as a leading supporter of engineering-related research, training and education, that makes a real difference in improving the safety of the critical infrastructure on which modern society relies. In support of this, we promote scientific excellence and act as a catalyst working with others to achieve maximum impact. Our strategic themes are concerned with supporting excellent scientific research, promoting engineering-related education, encouraging public communication around risk, and facilitating the uptake and application of technology for the wider benefit of society.

Experts needed! Lloyd's Register Foundation and the International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) are requesting research, evidence and case studies of Nature-positive Engineering (NPE) in action. Your contributions will inform a Foresight Review into safe practice in this field, helping provide a framework to ensure future approaches to #engineering help protect, restore and enhance natural ecosystems. We're requesting: - Challenges, priority gaps and opportunities to scale up NPE implementation - Examples of NPE approaches and projects from around the world - Existing research and innovation, resources and initiatives - Skills and education needed to mainstream NPE - Relevant stakeholders and organisations to engage with Please fill out the following call for input: https://loom.ly/-z5Wnko #NaturePositive #Sustainability #ClimateChange #CallForInput

How do we continue to work to improve the #safety of fishers globally? Last week, Lloyd's Register Foundation met with The Seafarers’ Charity and the FISH Platform to reflect on progress made by the International Fund for Fishing Safety (IFFS). In just nine months since the IFFS launched, this collaborative programme has awarded more than £200k to projects which will help improve the safety of 65,000 small-scale #fishers. Last month, Dr Darshana Godaliyadde, Director of Resilience4Ports and Technical Lead at Lloyd's Register, attended Baku Climate Action Week 2024. His session on Day 1 highlighted the urgency and importance of integrating #resilience and adaptation in the development and operations for #ports around the world - while delivering positive outcomes for communities and natural ecosystems. On Day 2, Darshana joined a session exploring “Zero Emissions Shipping, Freight Logistics and Transport Roundtable”. He discussed mainstreaming resilience and what types of actions can ports and logistics firms take to improve resilience of port systems. Resilince4Ports is led by International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) with the core partnership of Arup, UN High-Level Climate Champions and Lloyd's Register Foundation.

Lloyd's Register Foundation has recently funded a 6-month project by Transaid, which is strengthening access to essential #RoadSafety messaging at the Mombasa port enclave in Kenya. Delivered in partnership with North Star Alliance, it will promote engagement with free and established health services for commercial drivers, with the aim of reducing perceived barriers to quality health services in local clinics. Transaid's Head of Programmes, Sam Clark, explains: "Ensuring that the health and safety needs of professional drivers and other road users are met should be a priority in reducing the loss of life on roads globally.” Read now: https://lnkd.in/ev293WFx

#WorldRiskPoll data shows us how household #waste practices vary significantly by region and country income level – however, waste collection is also closely related to where a household is situated in a country. In high-income countries, urbanicity plays a limited role in the distribution of waste collection, which is slightly more likely in cities (88%) than in towns (86%) or rural areas (81%). As country income levels decrease, the effect of urbanicity becomes more pronounced, with low-income countries exhibiting the sharpest differences in waste collection by urbanicity. This urban-rural divide in waste collection is widest across Africa and large parts of Asia. Explore the poll: https://loom.ly/ZzBsrP4

Lloyd's Register Foundation has awarded £4 million to Seoul National University College of Engineering (서울대학교 공과대학) to improve safety in #shipping. This five-year #research programme will concentrate on three areas where evidence gaps need to be addressed to drive the development of standards and safer operations. This includes, the design of fuel tanks and systems, risk prediction and prevention, and the development and application of digital techniques to enhance safety at sea.
