✅ This checklist is how our experienced legal directory consultants have achieved and maintained rankings for 95+ departments and lawyers. We’ve distilled our years of experience into a checklist designed to help ambitious law firms prepare high-impact directory submissions, without the last-minute rush. We break the submission journey down into 6 crucial stages: 1. Coordination: Laying the groundwork is key. From getting submission portal access to reviewing the category guidelines, this phase ensures you're starting on solid footing. 2. Core Messaging: Build a strategy that will help you to craft a compelling narrative that sets you apart, and explains why clients come to you with their legal needs. 3. Work Highlights: Showcase your firm's prowess by selecting cases that demonstrate exceptional legal ability and breadth of experience. 4. Referees: Think strategically about who will provide the most impactful, detailed feedback that gives credence to your submission and showcases your firm in the best possible light. 5. Submission Stage: Take some time to review the submission and ensure that it is clear and concise, while outlining the significance of your practice and the work that you do. 6. Post-Submission: The process doesn't end when you hit ‘submit’. Follow up with referees, prepare for researcher interviews, and gather insights for future submissions. 📊 A strong directory ranking is more than just a shiny badge – it's a powerful business development tool. Use this checklist to help you craft a compelling submission that highlights your firm's excellence. #legalrankings #legaldirectories #lawfirmmarketing

The new Legal 500 UK rankings are now live! Almost 1,200 law firms have secured spots in the new guide, which come after months of research into the legal markets up and down the country. The rankings, which are based on extensive analysis of the legal markets across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, draw on the insights gained from thousands of interviews with law firms and new record levels of feedback from clients. The UK guide includes a total of almost 10,000 practice rankings, of which around 50% are in the London section. The rankings feature 1,176 unique law firms and other legal services providers, with 620 ranked in London. In addition to the practice rankings, there are almost 13,000 rankings for individual lawyers, including around 2,000 deemed worthy of inclusion in the prestigious Hall of Fame. Referee response rates once again saw double-digit growth this year, soaring to a new high of almost 65,500, 15% up on the equivalent total last year. Congratulations to everyone ranked! #Legal500 #UK #Rankings #L500UK2025

The submission period for Chambers’ High Net Worth Guide is underway for UK firms with a few early submissions due by 18 November, and the remainder due by 16 December. Chambers’ High Net Worth Guide is a great opportunity for law firms and lawyers with thriving private client practices and a niche in advising wealthy and HNW individuals to gain external recognition and enhance their profile in this area. The beauty of this guide, and particularly the Private Wealth Law submission category, is that: 💼 Work can cover a range of practice areas, from wills, probates, trusts and estates, to business succession planning, investment structuring and disputes. The categories do vary from region to region, so it is important to familiarise yourself with the categories relevant to your practice. 🗺 The ranking tables for these categories are split into smaller regional areas than the wider regions we see in Chambers' UK Guide. 👤 The ranking tables are typically less competitive than many of the well-served ranking tables across core practice areas in the UK Guide, with some regions having only 1 or 2 firms ranked.   Our legal directory consultants are here to answer any questions you have about preparing submissions to this guide, please feel free to reach out. #legalrankings #legaldirectories #highnetworth

The submission window for the 2025 edition of IP STARS is NOW OPEN!  This specialist guide is a great opportunity for #IntellectualProperty practitioners to demonstrate the strength of their practice and secure an IP Stars ranking, or be recognised for their achievements in the Managing IP Awards.   Here are some tips to guide you in your submission: ⬆ Take advantage of the lack of upper limit for work highlights Unlike many other legal directories, there is no upper limit on the number of matters you can include in your #IPStars submission. Just as the Managing IP Awards value quality, the IP Stars rankings value quantity. 🥇 Don't be disheartened if this year, you fall short of 15 work highlights As the submission form is used to decide both IP Stars rankings and Managing IP Awards, you will also be in the running for a Managing IP award, particularly if you work on high-impact cases. 🛣 Maintain consistency in your IP Stars lawyer recommendations Be intentional with the partners and lawyers you recommend for recognition as an IP Star year-on-year. Choose lawyers who are active in the IP community and likely to be recognised by clients and peers. 📝 Complete as much of the submission form as possible This includes the sections that you may think, “do they really need to know this to rank my practice?” The IP Stars research team are particularly open in their appreciation of firms who take the time to support their research and complete the form in full. 🚀 For help with taking your IP Stars submission to the next level, get in touch with one of our experienced legal directory consultants.  There are many things that firms can do to increase their chance of achieving or improving legal directory rankings, but for busy teams, we know there are only so many hours in the day. We’re here to bridge that gap. https://lnkd.in/gUUUGxaG #legaldirectorysubmissions #IPStars2025 #managingip #patent #copyright #trademark #IPlitigation #ipstarsrankings

We tend to hear this question when it’s already cutting it close. 😬 That’s not to say that it can’t be done close to the final hour but, the longer you leave it, the less time you will have to refine your submission. Of course, we advocate for a year-round approach to directory submissions. Keeping signed-off matter highlights updated throughout the year will make the directory process 10x easier. But we know that this can be difficult in practice.  It can take upwards of 10 hours to complete a high-quality submission and conduct referee outreach, but it can vary depending on: 📚 the quality of the information your firm holds 🧐 the level of information gathering required 💡 your familiarity with the directory process 🎯 the engagement of your team We recommend starting your submission process at least 8 weeks before the deadline.  This will give you enough time to gather and collate the relevant information, minimise the time spent juggling urgent client work, and leave enough time to edit the submission before it’s due. #legaldirectorysubmissions #lawfirmmarketing #Chambers #Legal500 #IPSTARS2025

We can’t stress the importance of being strategic when trying to achieve a ranking. If your challenge is in finding enough work highlights in one core practice area: ⚖ Compare the submission categories and descriptions across both Chambers and Legal 500 (they do differ) The categories vary across the directories, for example, Intellectual Property is one combined category in Chambers, whereas in Legal 500, it is split into two categories. For varied practices, submitting to Chambers’ consolidated IP category might be more achievable. 🛍 Consider Industry-focused categories such as Legal 500’s Retail and Consumer or TMT categories The benefit of these categories is that rather than focusing on work in one singular practice area, work can cover a whole range of practice areas for clients in a certain industry – perfect for firms performing varied work for clients in related sectors. If your challenge is the stiff competition in core practice areas: 📈 Chambers’ new SME-focused firms' category is a great opportunity for firms with less than 3 rankings Requiring an overview of work for 10 clients, as opposed to the more onerous 20 matter highlights – this category is much more friendly to firms working with a smaller roster of clients on a frequent basis. We’re particularly excited about this one. 🌱 The regional categories are where smaller firms have more opportunity to flourish UK-wide categories are certain to be competitive, so consider directing your efforts towards the regional categories aligned with your practice. If these strategies don’t help you, there are still many things that boutique firms can do to improve the chances of receiving a ranking. We’re asked this question a lot by boutique firms who either advise across multiple practices or who after a quieter year than usual, are concerned they won’t have 20 matters to fill the work highlights section. Now we aren’t telling you to spend hours of valuable time preparing legal directory submissions for practice areas you only occasionally advise clients on. But when it comes to areas where you *just aren’t quite able* to meet the 20 work highlights, there can still be benefits to participating in the directory process: 🛣 The road to a ranking is a cumulative process Because rankings are determined based on multiple years of high-quality submissions, it’s best to start early, and it’s certainly better to submit with shy of 20 matters than it is to miss a year entirely. ⬆ The client feedback firms obtain through this process is invaluable It’s feedback that can be otherwise difficult to obtain, and it can be used across areas of your marketing that extend well beyond directories. Client feedback is the compass that guides your success. 🏙 Getting (or staying) familiar with the directory process will leave you in good stead for future submissions Participating in this process gives you time to hone your firm’s message, and understand what you can do throughout the year to ease the last-minute directory season rush.   #legaldirectorysubmissions #chamberssubmissions #legal500submissions
