This Friday 11th October between 10:00 - 11:00am, LOM Architect Joyce Yazbeck will be taking part in a free-to-attend NLA webinar, speaking on designing inclusive spaces within educational institutions. A key part of the shift towards more inclusive design across our schools and universities is driven by the individual wellbeing and learning experience of all children and young people. Joyce will be giving a presentation on our newly completed project Point Blank Music School in Hoxton, London. This exciting retrofit and interior fit-out project includes 13 innovative teaching studios, improved student facilities, a new student performance hub and bar area, welcome lobby, library and breakout booths. We are delighted that two of our projects — Unity Place MK for Santander UK and Barn X for Rare Games — have been shortlisted for the 2024 FX Design Awards in both the UK Project of the Year and UK Workplace of the Year categories! Unity Place is a buzzing mixed-use workspace, with three atriums that link work and community spaces, and a central feature staircase to create movement and connections. The Urban Food Market, x+why coworking floors, MK University and Santander UK workspaces come together to create an active urban campus. Barn X is a highly sustainable, net zero carbon workplace in the English countryside created for Rare Games. The creative space has been designed to bring people together in a friendly, open working environment. Conceived as a contemporary barn using a timber frame structure for support and solar shading, this is building that is both modern and rooted in its environment. LOM are delighted our low-carbon workplace, Barn X, has been longlisted in the Dezeen Awards 2024. This highly sustainable, new office building has been designed for Rare Games, located at their beautiful campus in rural Leicestershire, with inspirational spaces for some of the UK’s most talented games developers. We developed a contemporary timber framed barn with an emphasis on biophilia, wellness, and collaboration. The design references the context and the wider campus, with materials informed by the surrounding landscape. The building is fully carbon neutral with LEED Gold certification, and features photovoltaics, a rainwater harvesting system, solar shading and sustainably sourced, recyclable materials and furniture. #BarnX has also achieved one of the highest performing office EPC scores in the country for office buildings!
