Happy Friday, Whisky Lovers! 🥃 Here are four interesting facts about whisky; read these while you enjoy a dram this Friday evening! Legal Definitions: Different countries have legal definitions for what constitutes whisky. For example, in Scotland, whisky must be aged for at least three years, while in the United States, it must be aged in new charred oak barrels. These regulations contribute to the diversity of whisky styles and flavours. Whisky vs. Whiskey: The spelling difference is that whisky without the ‘e’ is typically used in Scotland and other countries with a strong whisky tradition. Limited Supply: As whisky ages, a portion evaporates each year, known as the “angel’s share.” This natural evaporation reduces the volume of whisky in the cask but concentrates its flavours, making older whiskies rarer and potentially more valuable. Variety in Ingredients: While whisky is typically made from grains like barley, corn, rye, or wheat, the specific combination varies by region and style. For example, Scotch whisky is primarily made from malted barley, while bourbon must contain at least 51% corn. If you are interested in investing in whisky! Email us at invest@londoncasktraders.com
