  • Our Big City Collection 2024 has raised over £23,000! Big City Collection saw charity staff, operational crew, corporate partners and volunteers take to London’s streets, sporting events and shopping centres throughout September to raise vital funds. We’re so thankful to everyone who supported us during this year’s Big City Collection, whether that was by volunteering, donating or helping us spread the message that we’re a charity.

  • In late 2022, we announced that our service was participating in a clinical trial, SWIFT (Study of Whole blood In Frontline Trauma).   The trial involved 10 air ambulances across the UK and worked in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defence and Air Ambulances UK, looking at whether transfusing ‘whole blood’ (blood containing plasma, red cells and platelets) is a better treatment for critically-injured patients who are at risk of bleeding to death.   Patient recruitment to the SWIFT trial, led by NHS Blood and Transplant, has now closed three months ahead of schedule due to the success of the recruitment phase.   Dr Anne Weaver, a consultant with London’s Air Ambulance, who has been heavily involved in the SWIFT trial, said: "The early completion of patient recruitment for the SWIFT Trial underlines just how vital the use of blood is in trauma medicine."   Now, the trial will move into the analysis phase. If benefits are found, the results of the trial could reduce trauma deaths in civilian accidents and in any situation where delaying a transfusion by seconds or minutes could be critical.   Read more about the SWIFT trial: https://lnkd.in/eXHPi7td

  • In July 2020 Jim was involved in a horrific incident. Jim was cycling in Catford as part of his British Triathlon Federation Championship training when a large lorry moved into the lefthand-side lane, pushing him off the road. Our advanced trauma team was dispatched. On arrival, the team was surprised to find Jim conscious, given the gruesome nature of his injuries. He was already being treated by paramedics from London Ambulance Service NHS Trust who had managed to extricate him from under the lorry. Watch as Jim shares his story of recovery - including how just a year after his incident he competed in the British Paratriathlon Championships and came third!

This morning our royal patron, HRH The Prince of Wales, visited our helicopter’s overnight base, RAF Northolt, to see our two new helicopters: G-LAAA and G-LAAB 🚁 During his visit he met with some of our pilots and medical team, discussing the vital role that our helicopters play in delivering life-saving care to London's critically injured. He also spoke with two former patients, Mark and Claire, who reflected on the impact of our service. We were also delighted to be joined by our supporter David Beckham, who gave his backing to our Omaze partnership which raised £4 million. Our royal patron has consistently championed our cause, most notably during our #UpAgainstTime appeal, where he played a pivotal role in helping us secure our two new helicopters. His support has been instrumental in ensuring we can continue to provide exceptional emergency care for those in need. Thank you, HRH Prince of Wales. 📷 Kensington Palace & Nigel Pacquette

  • That's a wrap for G-LNDN and G-EHMS. Over the last 26 years, our MD902 Explorers have helped us to reach thousands of seriously ill patients across London - getting our advanced trauma team to the scene in under 11 minutes to provide innovative life-saving procedures. For years, these aircraft have been at the forefront of emergency response, flying our advanced trauma team to those in critical need. It's the end of an era, but their legacy will live on in the lives they've helped save across London.

  • This evening, our Communications team will be at the Charity Times Awards, where they’ve been shortlisted for PR Team of the Year. During our #UpAgainstTime appeal and beyond, our small but mighty PR team has produced outstanding content across various channels, securing remarkable press coverage in outlets from local to international, spanning print, broadcast, and radio. Each piece has been thoughtfully crafted, always supporting the broader goal of raising awareness that we are a charity, with the added impact of driving donations. Their creativity with no budget has been imperative in supporting the wider charity to raise £16 million for their Up Against Time appeal. Please join us in wishing them the best of luck.
