    Following on from our announcement of a new Maternity Leave feature, the government has announced in their Budget, several employment rights changes, which will impact maternity leave protections and working conditions for parents. The government committed to strengthening protections for pregnant women and new mothers by establishing a period of immunity from dismissal, covering pregnancy, maternity leave, and six months after returning to work. This aims to protect against redundancy and dismissal at a vulnerable time for mothers. Additionally, flexible working is set to become the default, making it easier for new parents to balance work and family responsibilities. These initiatives are part of a broader Employment Rights Bill aimed at enhancing workplace protections, increasing economic security, and reducing discriminatory practices in the workforce.     The decisions we make at the time we open a business are based on the knowledge and experience we have at that time. Whilst this is obvious, what’s not so obvious is the fact that as time goes by, some of these decisions should be revised to ensure they are still valid for todays business model. I hear time and time again resistance around changing pay structures, working patterns and the way holidays are managed: ‘oh we can’t change that’ ‘it’s the way we’ve always done it’ ‘the staff don’t like change’! OK some valid resistance, but what I love to do is to explore the options, this is to encourage my client to even consider change!
