The Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) and our sister organisation, the Electricity Settlements Company (ESC), sit at the heart of the delivery of the UK’s goals for secure, affordable and sustainable electricity. LCCC was established to be the independent counterparty to Contracts for Difference (CFDs), a new incentive designed by Government to bring forward the investment needed to sustainably deliver the UK’s goals for renewable and other low carbon electricity. Our mission is to build confidence in Electricity Market Reform (EMR) through effective commercial delivery, continuous improvement and helping to deliver secure, affordable and sustainable electricity that everyone can benefit from. We are managing CFDs relating to projects that are planning over 5.5GW additional low carbon capacity by 2020, equivalent to almost 7% of current total installed electricity capacity in the UK.

Today's landmark decision on the AR6 budget highlights a strong commitment to achieving clean power by 2030 and fostering green economic growth. The AR6 budget surpasses the combined budgets of all previous CfD rounds and is nearly 7 times larger than the last Allocation Round. Low Carbon Contracts Company is proud to be at the forefront of delivering the Government's ambition on clean energy, working with investors, industry, and government to deliver a low-carbon future. Today the Government has announced an increase of over £500m to the AR6 budget, bringing it to more than £1.5bn. Pot 3 sees a £0.3bn increase which based on internal estimates could allow between 1GW and 2GW of additional offshore wind generation, resulting in between 4GW and 7GW of offshore wind in total, assuming strike prices clear within £20 of the administrative strike price (£73/MWh). This increase in budget allowance acknowledges the critical role the CfD plays in accelerating Net Zero. Yesterday, Bir Virk, our Lead Scheme Operations Manager presented at the Capacity Market Launch Event 2024. He presented on the status of the Transfer of Ownership of Metering Activities from National Grid ESO (Delivery Body) to ESC/EMRS (CM Settlement Body) which is due to be deployed on Monday 29 July 2024 and the Mock System Stress Event Reporting for the upcoming 2024/25 DY.
