Low Carbon has energised four new solar farms in the UK. The four solar farms have a combined capacity of 133MW. Together it is estimated they will power the equivalent of more than 38,000 homes with clean energy and avoid approximately 40,000 tonnes of CO2e each year. Low Carbon’s Layer Solar Farm in Essex is the latest project to energise, which boasts 49.9MW and it joins Crouch Solar Farm (23MW), Maldon Wycke Solar Farm (25MW) and Links Solar Farm (35MW), which will collectively play an important role supporting the government’s decarbonisation targets. In the last year, Low Carbon’s managed operational assets have made a key contribution in the fight against climate change producing more than 120 GWh of renewable energy globally. Following Low Carbon’s success in the CfD Auction, Neil Brown, our head of capital formation, joined The Jolt Podcast to discuss what the auction means for the UK. Low Carbon was successful with all six projects that we included in the auction. The UK is demonstrating a commitment to renewable energy with this year’s auction allocated financing to 131 planned projects which, together, will provide energy to power the equivalent of 11 million homes. “There has definitely been a renewed push, we had our 500MW solar farm Gate Burton approved not long after the change of government,” according to Neil Brown. Low Carbon has secured 178MW of new solar capacity in the latest Contracts for Difference auction. This milestone builds on Low Carbon’s success in the last two auction rounds. Low Carbon has secured nearly 900MW of solar capacity in the last three CfD auctions, reinforcing our position at the forefront of the UK’s efforts to accelerate the clean energy transition. “We’re delighted to have been awarded 178MW of capacity in the CfD Allocation Round 6, which opens the door for new solar development and investment in the supply chain, while reinforcing Low Carbon’s track record of originating, developing, and operating renewable energy assets in the UK,” said Steve Mack, Chief Investment Officer at Low Carbon.   Low Carbon is playing a key role in supporting the rollout of solar energy across the UK.   Low Carbon is on a mission. Low Carbon has made significant headway in the measurement and monitoring of its greenhouse gas emissions. Over the last year Low Carbon made a key shift in our reporting strategy by bringing our carbon footprint calculation in-house. The footprinting work was led by our ESG team with collaboration throughout the business. We then worked with external specialists who verified our footprint to an ISO1064-3 standard giving us a greater sense of assurance for reporting. Our inhouse data team plan to use the information from our first sites as internal benchmarks against which to measure improvements on a number of ESG metrics, including decarbonisation. You can read all our progress in our 2023 Sustainability Report: https://lnkd.in/efcv7Knf Low Carbon is on a mission. Earlier this month Low Carbon’s New Projects Director Ed Birkett sat down with Ed Porter for an episode of the Modo Energy Transmission podcast to discuss the current state of the grid connections process in Great Britain. In a wide-ranging discussion, the episode covers key topics including: - The recent decision by the government to grant development consent for our 500 MW Gate Burton Energy Park. - A look at the current grid connection process and what needs to change to speed up the delivery of projects. - Why connections reform is critical for Labour to meet its ambitious 2030 clean power target. - A look at the current Contracts for Difference auction process, and how changes here could allow a higher volume of projects get through the system. Solar farms are an increasing feature to the landscape – crucial for energy, and also biodiversity. One benefit is for bees, butterflies, moths and hoverflies, all species that are otherwise rapidly disappearing from our countryside. View how we work with beekeepers on our sites: https://lnkd.in/eszqbV8x Low Carbon works with Lancaster University and funds research by Hollie Blaydes to gain further understanding into the way pollinating insects are thriving in solar parks. We ensure that a variety of plants have been allowed to flourish, and we make sure there is planting underneath and around the panels. We strive to create an area that is beneficial for insects, providing an oasis of food and nectar unobtainable elsewhere. We are proud to work with beekeepers on our sites, they are bringing back much-needed diversity to the countryside. Low Carbon is on a mission. Together, we will power tomorrow. #Bees #Solar #Biodiversity #PoweringTomorrow
