Great to speak at the Constructing Excellence in the North East Smart Construction event about how innovation is already unlocking sustainable construction in live projects up and down the UK. The conference and exhibition aimed to raise awareness of best practices of innovation in construction within the region and beyond. So, it was a privilege to be invited to talk about our cutting-edge solutions being used at the local and national levels to reduce carbon emissions. I stressed the importance of first-movers who are eager to adopt innovative products and tools, as they provide the vital foundation for scaling companies with groundbreaking solutions to accelerate their impact. In the case of Low Carbon Materials (LCM), these include Durham County Council, MGL Group, London Borough of Redbridge, Kenson Highways, National Highways, Skanska and Tarmac to name a few! Smart Construction 2024 also featured insights from other key innovators from across the North East sharing their expertise, including Graham Kelly from Okana, Tommy Cooke from Buildots, Ash Curzon of XYZ Reality, David Hughes of Material Evolution, Fernando De los Rios and Henry UNTERREINER of Hyperion Robotics and Ruth Watson of Mott MacDonald Bentley | MMB. ✳️ Decarbonising the Northeast: Cutting carbon for a road resurfacing project in Seaham. 🛣️ Our ongoing partnership with Durham County Council and MGL Group for resurfacing works at Westlea Road in Seaham. ✅  The project used ACLA®, our carbon-negative solution for lowering the carbon footprint of asphalt. 🎄 The use of ACLA® removed 18,200 kg CO2e/kg, that’s equivalent to the carbon caused by the average UK car driving 101,000 km. ⬇️ For more details, read the case study linked in the comments below ⬇️ 🧩 As a Seaham-based company with a global vision, we are proud to be driving sustainability and making a difference in our local community. ✅ Low Carbon Materials was grown and scaled in the Northeast, so we always love using our groundbreaking products right on our doorstep! 🌍 This project demonstrates our commitment to building a greener future, both locally and nationally. 💬 Want to decarbonise your next project? 🎯 Congratulations to National Highways, who have had their net zero targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). 📑 The Net Zero Highways Plan from National Highways is a roadmap for decarbonising England’s motorways and major A roads. 🛣️ The plan sets out steps to achieving net zero across the strategic road network by 2050. 🟩 Low Carbon Materials (LCM) is working with National Highways to help them achieve these ambitious targets. 🚧 Our new-to-market solution for decarbonising asphalt is currently being piloted on the M11 motorway in Essex by National Highways, Skanska and Tarmac. ✳️ ACLA® is a carbon-negative aggregate that significantly lowers the carbon footprint of asphalt. ⚡ Testing of ACLA® was also made possible thanks to a partnership with National Highways, Skanska and Tarmac as part of the Accelerating Low Carbon innovation program by Connected Places Catapult. ⏩ Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/d7P4wT9Y #Transport #Roads #Highways #SustainableConstruction #LowCarbonMaterials #NetZero 

🚧 We had an amazing experience at Highways UK this week, connecting with industry experts and sharing insights. ⚡ 5 highlights from the week  ⬇️ 🗣️ Panel discussion: CEO Natasha Boulding participated in a thought-provoking discussion on maximising resource potential through creating a circular economy. ♻️ Alongside Rahul Shah EMBA CMgr FCMI (BSI), James Ferrari (AECOM), Dean Kerwick-Chrisp (National Highways), Lorenzo Sangalli (Iterchimica), and Andrew Crudgington (CIHT Professional Development), Natasha discussed how reimagining the construction supply chain could actualize net zero ambitions. 🏆 Excellence Award: We were honoured to receive the Excellence StartUp of the Year Award 2024 for our pioneering work in decarbonising construction. 🌀 ACLA® showcase: We demonstrated ACLA®, our groundbreaking solution to addressing emissions from asphalt, used on over 95% of UK roads. 💪 ACLA® is a drop-in carbon negative aggregate which transforms the carbon footprint of asphalt. 🏆 Low Carbon Materials are extremely proud to have been awarded the Highways UK Excellence StartUp of the Year Award 2024! 🚧 We have been recognised for our innovative work in decarbonising construction with our drop-in material solutions. 🌐 We are passionate about developing low-carbon and environmentally friendly construction materials. ♻️ Our innovative products, ACLA® and OSTO®, are carbon-negative aggregates which can be incorporated into asphalt and concrete respectively to transform their carbon footprint. ✅ Used in several large-scale projects across the UK, every tonne of ACLA® used has permanently sequestered ~800 kg CO2e from the atmosphere! 🚗 That is an equivalent carbon saving of 2046 miles driven in the average gas-powered car. 🚀 We are excited to continue collaborating on projects across the UK to advance sustainable practices within construction, developing technology we believe will pave the way towards net zero.
