The LSE SU Green Finance Society recently welcomed two of Oliver Wyman's experts, Kirsty McKnight and Ojasvi Goel. This event marks the start of the 3rd year of Oliver Wyman's support and guidance to our future leaders in the sustainable world! Through this event, Ojasvi and Kirsty shared their experiences and journey at Oliver Wyman and discussed how the firm sets itself apart from its competitors. They further shared some examples of cases they have worked on, and how Oliver Wyman delivered their insightful solutions and supported their clients from start to end. One example they shared was their involvement with the UBS-Credit Suisse post-merger integration. This event gave our members an insight into how the world of Consulting works and what makes Oliver Wyman, and the larger Marsh McLennan Group, stand out. I would also like to thank Seongyun Hong who supported the event planning but was unfortunately unable to join. I look forward to another fruitful year of partnership with Oliver Wyman!

  • We are thrilled to announce the publication of our final research report for the 2023/24 academic year! 🏆 This time, our four research teams partnered with Titan Asset Management to analyse the mining industry's crucial role in the global transition to a low-carbon economy. We developed four distinct sustainable investment portfolios, considering the challenges and opportunities within the supply chain of various metals. Our research teams evaluated market demand, environmental and social challenges, opportunities in the supply chain, and geographical and political risks to construct sustainable investment portfolios. Here are the highlights of their findings: • Team 1: Focused on copper, lithium, nickel, and graphite as core holdings (70-80%) with other metals in strategic holdings (20-30%). • Team 2: Included uranium, lithium, cobalt, and gold. • Team 3: Emphasized copper, lithium, and nickel as core holdings (55-70%) with other metals in diversified holdings (30-40%). • Team 4: Calculated weighted scores for different metals, including copper, aluminum, steel, nickel, and others. This marks our second collaboration with Titan Asset Management and James Peel, CFA this year. A heartfelt thank you to James for your invaluable guidance and support throughout the research process, and to all your colleagues involved. This collaboration provided our teams with a fantastic opportunity to delve into the mining industry and apply practical investment portfolio construction techniques. We hope our report offers valuable insights for those interested in mining and sustainable investment. 🌱 Finally, a big thank you to our entire research team for your dedication and hard work this year! You've truly excelled. We hope you've learned from our reports and had an unforgettable experience. Special thanks to our research heads, Tianyu Zou and Meiqi Li, for coordinating this publication and leading the team throughout the year. #SustainableInvestment, #MiningIndustry, #GreenFinance, #PortfolioConstruction, #LowCarbonEconomy

  • The final day of our Sustainable Finance conference, coinciding with #InternationalWomen’sDay featured Alexandra Basirov nee McGowan, EMEA Head of the Sustainable Banking Solutions Group at Bank of America as our closing keynote speaker. Alexandra began the keynote by sharing her personal academic and professional journey, which began at the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where she was an Economics undergraduate student! She also detailed her motivations for entering the financial sector as well as her early career experiences in Finance, before being inspired to specialise further into Sustainable Finance, ultimately ending up at Bank of America. Alexandra also provided exclusive insights into her current role, the stakeholders and projects she engages with on a day to day basis, as well as the key trends and regulations in Sustainable Finance that are shaping the industry and evolution at an accelerating pace. Lastly, Alexandra provided career advice to our keen audience to help them make the most out of their time at LSE and beyond. The Q&A and networking session following the structured speech was a particular highlight, where we got to hear a real passion for sustainability shine through our audience members’ thoughtful questions and our speaker’s insightful answers. With questions ranging from “How has the high interest rate environment affected often highly levered sustainable investments?” to “What more can be done to showcase and support women at every level of the career hierarchy in finance?”, it was definitely a comprehensive and engaging discussion! Thank you to Isabelle Teh for moderating, as well as the rest of the LSE SU Green Finance Society committee and subcommittee for their tireless efforts on stage and behind the scenes throughout the week. Lastly, a huge thank you to all participants throughout the Conference, and we hope to see you at upcoming events this and next academic year!
