A key part of The MadiganGill Way is the training and development of our staff. This week saw the first of two sessions taking place this month of Behavioural Safety for all of our logistics managers, operational staff, and senior management. The sessions hosted by Tim Anker of Anker and Marsh took us through the importance around behavioural safety and how it relates to work culture. Explaining about leading by example and coaching, and that communication is key amongst our team, along with how we pro-actively address mental health and the wellbeing of our staff. Already, we’ve had some excellent feedback and positive action from those attending as well as sharing some light-hearted moments. They said “It served as an important reminder of the challenges people face daily and how much our support is needed. Yesterday’s training really highlighted the importance of teamwork, both at work and beyond.” Another great response was “Today I have changed the way we approach our operatives with a better attitude and asked them to tell me how I am going wrong when I deal with stress and how it affects them, which was a real eye-opener.” Tony Ball Managing Director for Logistics and Demolition commented “We continue to focus on the coaching and development of our team to improve their own standards, and the service we provide our clients.” To discover more about MadiganGill Logistics please visit: https://lnkd.in/e96WKNgR #behaviouralsafety #healthandsafety #madigangill #timanker #ankerandmarsh #wellbeing #mentalhealth #goodpractice #themadigangillway

As we begin our new financial year, we made a flying start by having our MadiganGill Logistics and Principle Demolition Ltd New Starters Breakfast. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other, share experiences, and provide insight into their knowledge and background. The breakfast was also a good opportunity to discuss our shared message as we have a lot planned for 2024 / 2025. Greater regional coverage, a broader diversity of the types of projects we are undertaking, and of course an update on our wider objectives for the year. Attending were Sarah Cheng, Brooke Curran, Ligia Pop, Matthew Ball, Daniel Madigan Ward, and Madalina Vatafu who returned to us after maternity leave. It was hosted by Tony Ball, Managing Director for Logistics and Demolition who was delighted to get together with everyone and enjoy the enthusiasm and feedback. RECYCLING AND REUSING TEN TONNES OF WOOD WASTE We are delighted that MadiganGill Logistics has received an Achievement Award from Community Wood Recycling for diverting over 10 tonnes of wood waste for reuse or recycling from our Network Building project in London for valued client Kier Construction. We have been working with supply chain partner Community Wood Recycling since 2014 across our projects ensuring that we segregate and recycle as much wood waste as we can from each. To keep this momentum going, earlier this month, we arranged for our apprentices to visit the Community Wood Recycling Operations in Brighton so they could see for themselves how wood waste is processed, recycled, and reused. Tony Ball, Managing Director for Logistics and Demolition said “This forms part of our brief in delivering the project for Kier and Derwent London to achieve BREEAM Outstanding for this low-carbon building”. LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE This month our MadiganGill Logistics Waste Management Apprentices visited the Sortera UK waste management facility in Edmonton, North London. Responsible Waste Management is an important part of our offering, and this was an excellent opportunity to see firsthand how construction waste is collected, recycled, and processed. Tony Ball, Managing Director for Logistics and Demolition said “This programme is a great opportunity for our apprentices to gain the knowledge and experience that will be able to steer their careers towards becoming Logistic Managers for the future”. MadiganGill shares the belief, with our supply chain partner Sortera, that we have a responsibility to invest in the proper management of waste to maximise the circular value of our activities and protect future generations. Over the coming months, MadiganGill will be looking to bring in our third cohort of Logistics Waste Management Apprentices and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in applying. You can apply online before November 29th at: https://lnkd.in/e9e7SARe #wastemanagement #apprenticeships #madigangill #sortera #recycling #constructionlogistics

A big thank you to Nikhita Jackson and Ria Morris from the Social Value team at valued client Wates Residential who recognised Kenny, our traffic marshal at Grahame Park. it’s always great to get recognition from clients, and it was lovely seeing this post. Our Traffic Marshals are the face of many projects and play a significant front-line role in our Logistics operations. They interact with the community, transport, pedestrians, and local businesses. All the more welcoming as it comes close on the heels of us receiving the London Supply Chain Social Value Award for 2024 from Wates Residential for having the most engagement across employment, skills, and community projects. Also, Wates Group recognised the traffic management services we provide as part of our overall logistics package at 41 Lothbury as a key factor in helping them achieve a Gold Award nomination from the City of London Corporation and the Considerate Contractor Scheme. Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us to discuss how we can develop traffic management solutions through our construction logistics offering, and to find out more about MadiganGill Logistics’ full services, visit: https://lnkd.in/e96WKNgR #madigangill #constructionlogistics #trafficmarshals #watesresidential #TheMadiganGillWay #ConsiderateContractorScheme
✨ 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙩 !! ✨ Just a moment of appreciation for Kenny who has been working on our Grahame Park project in Barnet for some time. Kenny is the face of the project, being the first contact at the gate. He always greets us at the gates with such warmth, and ensuring wellbeing is at the top of his agenda. Kenny has a great work ethic and is someone you can count on. So thank you, for always bringing a smile to our faces whenever we walk onto Grahame Park! We hope our paths meet again on another project! MadiganGill Ria Morris

THERE’S STILL SLAVERY IN THE UK TODAY Anti-Slavery Day is a good opportunity to raise awareness of the fact that over 49.6 million people in the world today, and an estimated 122,000 people in the UK, are trapped in conditions of modern-day slavery. It’s also the right time to remind businesses, friends, family, and colleagues to do what they can to be on the lookout for this problem and prevent human trafficking, and protect victims of modern-day slavery. Within the construction industry, modern-day slavery is still a pressing matter that needs to be addressed. As part of our MadiganGill CSR strategy, we not only make every effort to create awareness of this issue but also have stringent vetting and checking processes in place through our Compliance Team and as part of our resourcing procedures. This is additionally supported by training our team in spotting the signs of modern slavery and placing ‘spot the signs’ posters on live project sites, in multiple languages, along with “Tool Box Talks” on modern-day slavery. We have also ‘renewed’ our Modern Day Slavery (MDS) policy, including within our employee handbook, and have appointed an anti-MDS champion who provides development training for site and office-based staff. We are keen to continue supporting the cause of anti-slavery because we believe it doesn’t have to be this way. 10 YEARS OF WORKING TOGETHER - saving resources and sharing knowledge As part of Recycle Week, our new cohort of Logistics Waste Management apprentices went to Community Wood Recycling who operate out of Brighton. This visit, organised so brilliantly by Naz Toropdar - Head of Group CSR and Adam Webster - HR Manager, was in aid of driving awareness for Recycle Week and as part of our Logistics Waste Management apprenticeship programme that provides varied and diverse learning opportunities in waste management. We have been working with Community Wood Recycling since 2014, during which time we have collected more than 75 tonnes of wood waste for recycling saving over 50 tonnes of virgin raw materials. Our apprentices were shown around by Vanessa Nannan and Poppy Stoner who were on hand to explain the model and process for sustainable timber reuse and community benefit. “It was inspiring to see how interested the apprentices were about what we do, particularly as they watched our team making things from reclaimed timber in the workshop.” This is our second cohort of apprentices and follows closely on the heels of the success of our previous group who graduated in August. IT’S GOOD TO TALK Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme, set by the World Federation of Mental Health is ‘Workplace Mental Health’ and highlights the importance of supporting mental health and wellbeing in the workplace - for the benefit of individuals, organisations, and communities. Aligned with our CSR strategy, MadiganGill is committed to ensuring our colleagues feel well-supported in this area. We deliver, participate in, and facilitate a number of initiatives from our offices and sites - including ‘Blue Monday’ coffee mornings, Tool Box Talks, ‘Make it Visible’ Talks - in partnership with The Lighthouse Charity. Additionally, we run wellbeing and community activities, while continuing to train more colleagues in mental health. Raising awareness about mental health within our company and across our industry is vital. Over the past few years, we have worked closely with our clients and the Lighthouse Charity who have been a great source of information and support. What has proven essential is creating an environment where colleagues feel they can speak openly. Supporting the Fight Against Homelessness Tomorrow marks #WorldHomelessnessDay and it’s a shocking fact that homelessness continues to rise in the UK. New research from Shelter shows, at least 309,000 people in England will spend this Christmas without a home, including almost 140,000 children. This is an increase of 14% compared to last year. People find themselves homeless for various reasons - often driven by lack of affordable housing, poverty, unemployment, personal hardships, or life events. Earlier this year, we announced a new partnership with a social enterprise, Social Box Biz which focuses on the collection and refurbishment of old IT and telecoms equipment from both our offices and sites. The initiative aims to contribute in addressing e-waste, digital inclusion, and unemployment. The items collected from MadiganGill were sorted for re-use and anything that had reached its end-of-life, or was unable to be reused was stripped down to core materials for spare parts. Usable items were donated to charities, supporting them deliver social impact programmes - including digital inclusion initiatives, training, and employment activities providing essential IT skills and equipment for those seeking work. This initiative was organised by MadiganGill’s Climate Action Working Group who sourced from our own operations and encouraged colleagues to contribute any old IT equipment they no longer used at home. We were delighted to see the positive social impact of this project, with some of the items already being passed on from Social Box to the homeless charity C4WS Homeless Project, supporting their Job Club project, which helps individuals on their employment journey. Additionally, through our #StepForwardProgramme, we are collaborating with other charity partners including Crisis, St Mungo's, Beam to facilitate and deliver employability sessions and job opportunities.
