Mid Kent Mind

Mental Health Care

Mid Kent Mind are a mental health charity supporting individuals in #Kent with their #MentalHealth and #Wellbeing.

About us

Mid-Kent Mind are a registered UK Charity (Charity Number 1167328), and are a local branch of the nationally recognised mental health charity, ‘Mind’. As a local entity we are entirely self-funded – and therefore rely on the goodwill of our communities to continue to offer support to people who are in need. The support we offered is varied and diverse – incorporating Community Groups, a Low-Cost Counselling Service, courses which promote positive coping strategies and also courses which provide more in-depth knowledge on certain mental health problems and how we can better cope with them. These programmes are accompanied by an extensive assortment of youth courses to support young people with developing resilience from a young age, too. We also offer a wealth of support to businesses – including bespoke training packages which empower them to educate their employees about mental health and wellbeing, encouraging better awareness of mental health within the workplace, and in turn, creating better and more supportive workplace environments. If you would like to learn more about what we do, you can e-mail community@midkentmind.org.uk today.

I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to Henu Cummins for demonstrating what true leadership is all about. When I reached out to her through Simon Dolby in her capacity as CEO of Mid-Kent Mind, seeking ways to better support a vulnerable community experiencing a high number of suicides, her immediate and personal response was profoundly impactful. Her physical presence and willingness to offer support first hand is instrumental in starting the process of building bridges and providing much-needed assistance to that community. Thank you for your exceptional leadership and for being a beacon of hope in these challenging times.

Thank you to Mid Kent Mind for hosting an Adult Suicide Prevention course last Friday, Chantelle Willows (GMBPsS) did an amazing job at handling such a difficult topic with care. Here are my main takeaways: - There are many warning signs that someone is contemplating suicide, but the main thing to look for is a change in the person - e.g. a sudden ‘recovery’ from poor mental health, giving away possessions, or behaving out of character. - There are different types of suicidal ideation, which each require different approaches. - Never tell someone who is suicidal that you ‘understand’ what they’re going through - this can shut down a conversation. Good alternatives are: ‘I really want you to keep talking to me’ or ‘I’m sorry to hear you feel that way’. Building awareness of the signs and triggers of suicidal ideation is important for everyone, so I’d highly reccomend this to anyone living in Kent or Medway. It is available through the Mid Kent Mind website.

Passionate about Sports Development and enhancing opportunities for underrepresented groups.

Really enjoyed being a part of Kent CIPD’s panel discussion today, where we shared our thoughts on wellbeing in the workplace and its impact on organisations with HR professionals from across the South East. With statutory and third sector support being overwhelmed by the increasing need and decreasing funds to help people, it was really refreshing to spend time with an open minded group who saw the value in embedding wellbeing in their policies in practices. There is no quick fix for the mental health crisis, but rooms with open discussions like this and organisations being willing to learn, adapt and take action will benefit society as a whole. Here’s to seeing more of them happening across the country. Thank you so much to Joe Cheal for inviting Mid Kent Mind to participate and for facilitating a great event. If you would like to access our workplace wellbeing training then please get in touch.

We are really proud of our CEO Henu Cummins for doing a brilliant job co-chairing the Mind National Leadership event held at The University of Warwick this week. Was fantastic to see all the talent, experience and expertise in the room from across the country collaborating to tackle the issues there are surrounding mental health and the charity sector across England and Wales. Thank you to the Mind team for facilitating an insightful couple of days.
