We'd like to say a huge thank you to Pink Ribbon Foundation for their generous grant of £6,000 for our Tea & Chat groups. With 16 monthly in-person groups up and down the UK, our Tea & Chat groups provide a lifeline for our secondary breast cancer community, offering valuable peer-to-peer support and friendship. "Attending the Make 2nds Count breast cancer support group gave me hope and a light in the darkness. It gave me a vital support network when I really needed it" - Heather Without the generosity of our funders and supporters, we would not be able to continue running these important groups - so thank you! We are disappointed that a solution has not been found to allow Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan) to be available on the NHS in England for the thousands of people with HER2 - low Secondary (metastatic) Breast Cancer. The drug is approved in many other countries, including Scotland, it is unacceptable that this promising treatment is still not being made available in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. With Enhertu being rejected again due to 'a fair price' not being offered. An urgent review of the severity modifier and the classification of Secondary (metastatic) Breast Cancer is urgently needed. It's becoming clear the introduction of the severity modifier, as part of the changes to NICE in 2022, isn't working and may lead to other effective treatments being rejected by NICE. We will continue to work with the community and other charities to ensure all Secondary (metastatic) Breast Cancer patients have the same access to treatment options across the UK.

We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of actress Shannen Doherty and our deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends today. Her death reminds us of the vital work which still needs to be done in order to raise awareness around Secondary (Metastatic) Breast Cancer. Our CEO, Samantha Dixon said: "Shannen’s journey with this devastating disease has touched countless lives and underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and understanding of secondary breast cancer, also known as metastatic, advanced or stage 4. Despite all efforts, this deadly disease - which currently affects an estimated 67,000 people in the UK alone  - has no cure and still remains largely unknown. Our aim at Make 2nds Count is to raise awareness about secondary breast cancer, to advocate for better care and to invest money into vital secondary breast research, as well as offer support to everyone who is affected by it. "We hope that Shannen’s legacy - and the legacy of countless others before her - will inspire more conversations and direct action to be taken, to ensure that the secondary breast cancer community receive the recognition, understanding, and care they deserve.” https://lnkd.in/dUJhFRsx #secondarybreastcancer #livingwithsecondarybreastcancer #metastaticbreastcancer #stage4breastcancer

Wow! What an incredible few days we've had at the Hilton Hotel Liverpool for the UK's first Secondary Breast Cancer Patient Summit, working with The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and ECMC. A huge thank you to the incredible speakers we've had over the last few days who gave up their time to come and share their expertise with our community. Thank you to our funders Novartis AstraZeneca Pfizer InsuranceWith Gilead Sciences MSD and Menarini Stemline who enabled 100 people affected by secondary breast cancer to enjoy this three-day event for free. Thank you also to the wonderful ladies at John Lewis & Partners Liverpool l who treated some of our community to gorgeous-smelling treatments! And thank you to our wonderful community for coming along. So many rich conversations and stories shared - and we were thrilled that 400 people joined us online! Thank you all for making it such a successful event - one we hope to repeat in the future. #SBCSummit2024 #secondarybreastcancer #livingwithsecondarybreastcancer
