A huge thank you to Scotland Office and the Rt Hon Ian Murray MP, Scotland Secretary of State, for hosting a wonderful event last night at Dover House, Whitehall to showcase our 'Truth Be Told' exhibition for #breastcancerawarenessmonth The exhibition portrays a number of striking photographs, taken by the talented Jennifer Willis, that show the visible and invisible sides to living with secondary breast cancer, demonstrating vulnerability, resilience and hope. Tansy Main, Make 2nds Count Community Ambassador, who features in the exhibition, closed the evening by sharing her inspiring story of living with the disease. Scottish Secretary Ian Murray said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome Make 2nds Count to the Scotland Office. Secondary breast cancer is not widely understood, and Make 2nds Count does fantastic work supporting people with the disease, but also raising awareness and fundraising for treatment. It was inspiring to hear about their work and the stories of those living with secondary breast cancer.” Thank you to everyone that attended, including Baroness Morgan of Drefelin, members of our secondary breast cancer community, pharmaceuticals Novartis and AstraZeneca, and others from the breast cancer sector. Dover House also lit up in our charity colour as part of our Shine a Light initiative as a symbol of unity. A special thank you to our sponsors that made the event possible: InsuranceWith MNM Developments (Scotland) Ltd & Smith+Nephew #secondarybreastcancer

A huge thank you to all of the amazing companies, venues and landmarks that lit up the night sky with our charity colours over the weekend for secondary (metastatic) breast cancer awareness day yesterday (13 Oct). From BT Tower Cardiff Castle and WSM Grand Pier to the Capital Centre, Edinburgh, The Penshaw Monument and Gateshead Millennium Bridge, it's been incredible to see so many cities getting involved. And thank you to our brilliant community who got chilly taking photos! There's only one day dedicated to raising awareness for secondary (metastatic) breast cancer nationally, so we are thankful to everyone who has helped to make it the topic of conversation. We want to continue that conversation throughout the year so that more people know about the disease and the work we do to support those living with it. If you'd like to help us raise important awareness about secondary breast cancer through your organisation, get in touch. #ShineALight #SecondaryBreastCancerAwarenessDay #LivingwithSecondaryBreastCancer

Today is secondary (metastatic) breast cancer awareness day. Research from GenesisCare UK shows that 1 in 3 people in the UK do not know what secondary breast cancer is. Do you? Secondary (metastatic) breast cancer is a cancer that has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. It is incurable but treatable, and has a devastating impact on those affected and their families. With an estimated 61,000 women and men living in the UK with this disease, and 1,000 people losing their lives to it every month, we think it needs to be talked about more and understood more. Our mission is for our community to live longer, better lives alongside secondary breast cancer. We're here to give hope to everyone affected by this disease: https://lnkd.in/ehg6TdMy #secondarybreastcancerawarenessday #secondariesonthe13th #secondarybreastcancer #livingwithsecondarybreastcancer

Mental Health impacts us all, but we are particularly conscious of how much stress our community is put under when they are living with secondary breast cancer. Today on World Mental Health Day, we invite you to take part in this calming breathwork technique from Louisa at BreatheBalanceBe. Our breathing patterns send messages to our body and minds, and so changing our breath can change how we feel, as well as helping us cope with pain, fatigue and other symptoms that come with treatment. Our wellbeing programme offers a number of calming activities to help with mental health, including Pilates, Yoga, mindfulness and breathwork. It is estimated that there are 61,000 men and women in the UK living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer. It has a devastating impact on people affected and their families, yet 1 in 3 of the general public have never heard of it. Every month, 1,000 people will lose their lives to this incurable disease. These stories cannot go unheard. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), we're shining a light on the many realities of living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer by sharing stories of 1,000 Truths. These are stories from mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, and family members. By highlighting the many truths of living with this disease, we can together raise vital awareness, amplify voices that should be heard, and connect a community so that they feel supported and hopeful.
