On Sunday, we returned to Maldon Fields Crematorium to check out their fantastic progress 📸 We first visited in August 2024 when the building was mid-construction Initial news reports predicted that the building would open for services in December 2024 and aim to help reduce the 5-6 week wait that grieving families from #Chelmsford, #Braintree and #Colchester currently experience to just two weeks There is SO MUCH more landscaping work being done, so we can't wait to return for a third time to check out the progress again in the future 💙 Also, check out the completed renovation of the Cooper's Monument which, according to Maldon Fields, dates back to 1825 and was built in memory of William Alexander Esq. of Woodham Mortimer Hall by the Coopers Company to whom he bequeathed the estate for the benefit of the poor 🔗 For more information about Maldon Fields, call 01621 733280 or email office@maldonfields.co.uk

Plans for new crematorium to serve Thurrock I am delighted to confirm that we recently announced our proposals to provide a new crematorium in Orsett to serve bereaved families in Thurrock. The district does not have its own crematorium and the two existing facilities weren't designed to hold such high numbers of funerals - over 6000 pa between them. Elegy hope to provide something quieter in a tranquil, natural setting built to meet modern expectations. We are very pleased to have had such a strong endorsement of our new service at this very early stage. It’s a great testament to the new team led by David and Marian and it’s their day to day dedication that makes me most proud. We know that there is more to do though especially with the landscaping and grounds which we will push on with when the better weather arrives. We are very grateful for the FBCA’s kind words in the meantime as it helps to show we’re on the right track.

I know that there is a concerted effort to convince society that funerals are no longer needed but our opening weeks of Maldon Fields have rather disproved this fallacy.   The response has been wonderful to see with our chapel/ceremonial room regularly full and hosting a truly diverse range of services. This allows our facilities to really make a difference and for the bereaved to truly design an individual service (which they always are of course). Our first funeral was for a tragically young DJ and our sound system, thanks to Obitus, was tweaked so that his own trance and house music tracks sounded their best. We have since had live sea shanties , D&B, classics for a rock and roll drummer as well as more traditional tastes but  all have had the time and space to create the meaningful and personal event that those left behind craved.   We expected this but the very positive reactions of the bereaved makes all of our efforts worthwhile with so many commenting on the added comfort and the beauty of our setting. Most importantly, they feel that they are the only funeral taking place which is wonderful to hear as that’s our main purpose. Hopefully we can help everyone in our care to have that meaningful funeral and take a necessary step in their grief journey.  And, of course, it couldn't be achieved without having a great team - Marian and David have been especially important and nice to share the sunshine with them!

It’s always hard at the end of a project to get over the final 5%…but it’s always a pleasure to look back on the challenges met. Maldon fields crematorium is now ready to open, the staff are looking forward to using their combined experience to provide a much needed, unique and personalised service for the bereaved in Maldon and the surrounding towns and villages.

❄️ Bright Skies, Cold Days – Progress at Maldon Fields Crematorium 🌟 With just 12 days to go until the grand opening on 4th December 2024, the team has been hard at work despite the freezing temperatures. The crisp blue skies may give the impression of a warm day, but the chill hasn’t stopped our dedicated crew from getting everything ready! Here’s what’s happening on-site: ✨ Exterior Finishing Touches: The cladding on the office area is complete, and the outdoor spaces are looking fantastic. ✨ Interior Excellence: Inside the chapel, acoustic panels have been installed, the carpet is down, and the catafalque is in – everything is coming together beautifully. ✨ Landscaping Progress: Fences are up, trees have been planted, and the ground has been leveled and prepped for turfing, shaping a serene and welcoming environment. 📸 Take a look at the latest images!
