Finding the Needle in the Haystack... If you're hiring in competitive markets like Data & AI and relying solely on job ads or LinkedIn advertising, you're leaving a vast pool of untapped talent on the table. While it is true that there’s more talent available in today’s market, and companies are receiving a high number of applications, it is also true that the quality has not increased. This has resulted in companies spending more time screening hundreds of applications, often with little return. As an example, I recently spoke with a client who had screened over 200+ applications in less than a month for a leadership role in Data. From that, only four candidates were invited to an interview. This was due to several reasons such as: most applicants were outside the required city and unwilling to relocate, lacked leadership experience, didn’t speak German, or missed key technical skills. After some discussion, they took the leap. Fast forward a few months, more responsibility, a better cultural fit, and a renewed sense of excitement for their work. The Future of Data & AI Expert Roles for Consulting Companies in Germany… ...is Domain Knowledge + Technical skills I spoke with a member of the senior leadership team at a large consulting firm recently who echoed this message, we’ve heard the same from many of our partners across Germany. Consulting companies hiring Data & AI experts in large volume for purely technical roles is becoming less common in Germany. The future of expert roles is the combination of technical skills mixed with specific domain knowledge. Real “consulting skills” are in high demand. Building true partnerships, identifying and creating opportunities, complex problem solving with an emphasis on real business impact. Over the last few years with so much remote work, these consulting skills and focus on relationship building might have taken a back seat. Pure technical work can be outsourced. Understanding the client’s needs and navigating industry specific nuances cannot. The ideal combination for an "expert role" with most of our consultancy clients would be: - Industry knowledge in one or more domains. - The ability to speak the clients language and understand their needs. - The ability to identify opportunities and follow up. - Technical skills in Data & AI. - 5-10+ years relevant experience, ideally with consulting background. Core skills identified by the World Economic Forum future of jobs report this year such as analytical thinking, flexibility, active listening and curiosity also spring to mind when looking at requirements for expert roles in the consultancy space. As a side thought, the same holds true in recruitment : ) It’s our responsibility to understand the nuances and challenges as they relate to Data & AI talent in Germany, then to find effective ways to address customer specific needs through building long term partnerships. It is with the deepest sadness that we remember our dearly beloved friend, colleague, and family member of MAM Gruppe, Nabila Mahmood, who sadly passed away on Saturday, 25th January 2025, at the age of 36. Today, on what would have been her 37th birthday, we honour and celebrate Nabila’s life - a life that was filled with warmth, kindness, and an unconditional love for those around her. Nabila was so much more than a colleague. She was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, and a fiercely dedicated mother, especially to her two young sons, who she leaves behind. To those who knew Nabila, she was everything. She had an incredible energy - always full of warmth, always looking out for others. Her passion for health and wellness wasn’t just something she practiced, it was something she shared, helping those around her live better, feel better, and be better. Nabila did everything with kindness, patience, and an open heart. Her honesty, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family were at the core of who she was. Whether it was putting others before herself, supporting her family, sharing her unique yet effective approach to healthy living, or offering motivational guidance, Nabila made a permanent impact that won’t ever fade. We hope that Nabila’s generosity and the positive influence she had on so many lives continue to inspire others for years to come. In accordance with Islamic tradition, if Nabila owed any outstanding debts, we kindly ask that you come forward and speak with either MM Mahmood or Maqbool Mahmood, so that these matters can be settled appropriately. It is our responsibility to fulfil these obligations on her behalf. We will honour Nabila’s memory by living according to the values she cherished, and by keeping her in our thoughts and actions, remembering her in our prayers.
