The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) will be at the core of Labour's plan to construct 1.5 million new homes. The NPPF is currently open for an eight-week consultation on proposals that include reintroducing housing targets for councils, establishing rules for releasing green belt land as 'grey belt', and removing all references to beauty. To achieve this building target, a screening tool will be needed to assist developers, landowners, and local authorities in evaluating newly accessible land in terms of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements. We have developed a product that utilises satellite technology to detect urban heat islands. This information can assist stakeholders in assessing the risk to housing and human health. As our climate continues to warm, cities will encounter escalating challenges associated with heat stress, particularly in areas with limited green space.
