Martin Lamb was out early this morning for a breakfast meeting at Cardiff Business School with Alexia Course from Transport for Wales and Owain Taylor-Shaw from ffeibr, TfW's wholly owned tech subsidiary talking about levering public sector assets to deliver sustainability and reduce the taxpayer subsidy for rail. Great presentations and Q&A on a topic Maple Consulting Ltd co-wrote 2 white papers on. The morning was massively enhanced by cycling to and from the event on a beautiful Spring morning on a traffic-free route and a quick stop at Llandaff Weir.

This is an absolute nonsense sensationalist headline. It implies that many major roads are reverting to 30. Actually, and as described in the report, it covers 3 roads and a small section of another. Hardly a huge U turn. Whilst I might expect this from the Telegraph, Mail or Express, I would expect better from a professional journal. As also mentioned as a footnote in the article, the policy is achieving its aims of improving road safety.

A great visit to NappiCycle with CIWM Cymru Wales Centre to see the circular economy in action
Today we hosted a fantastic site visit with CIWM Cymru Wales Centre, where we had the opportunity to delve into Pura NappiCycle's journey, our milestones in waste management, and our ambitious future goals for sustainability and the circular economy. 🌍 It was wonderful to network with fellow CIWM members and representatives from various organisations and local authorities. Your engagement and insightful questions truly enriched the experience. A massive thank you to everyone who joined us! ♻️ #PuraNappiCycle #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #Networking #CIWMCymru

Interchange 25 – Building for a Challenging Future 🌍 Great discussions today on the challenges and opportunities in transport, infrastructure, and decarbonisation. Some key takeaways: 🔹 Climate & Infrastructure – Prof. Phil Blyth (Newcastle University) highlighted the increasing climate challenges. Governments will need prioritisation frameworks, and in some cases, tough decisions about abandoning infrastructure. The role of insurance is evolving—case in point: thousands of cars lost in Valencia floods with uncertain coverage. 🔹 Nature & Resilience – Steve Elderkin (National Highways) stressed the need to rebuild with nature, integrating biodiversity into infrastructure and using nature-based flood protection. Fragmentation of ecosystems by transport infrastructure must be tackled. 🔹 Clean Energy & Transport Alignment – Bob Moran (UK DfT): The UK remains Europe’s largest EV market, with 33% of new registrations in Dec 2024. Jez Haskins (Taylor Woodrow): Private investment in clean energy is driving economic growth and skills, particularly in remote and coastal areas. Maritime and aviation will require deeper international cooperation. 🔹 Decarbonisation Trials & Lessons Learned – Michael Hurwitz (PA Consulting) shared insights on road, rail, maritime, and aviation trials. The standout message? Battery technology has advanced significantly, making HGV electrification just about feasible. Lots to consider for the future of transport and sustainability. What are your thoughts on these challenges? 🚀🌱 #Interchange25 #Transport #Decarbonisation #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #EV #Infrastructure #ClimateResilience

Dame Sarah Storey talking about Greater Manchester’s walking, wheeling and cycling strategy at #interchange25. Integration with Bee network is key along with schools and vision zero. Lessons for Cardiff and TfW. Apparently, Geraint Thomas has just retired so we have a cycling legend of our own…
