This Black History Month, as we embrace the theme "Reclaiming Narratives," it's essential to highlight and honour the contributions of Black individuals whose stories have often been overlooked or misrepresented. In the UK, Black history is rich and impactful, yet frequently under-recognised. For instance, Mary Seacole, a pioneering British-Jamaican nurse during the Crimean War, made significant contributions to healthcare but was long overshadowed by Florence Nightingale. Her efforts, now being more widely acknowledged, are a testament to the need for broader recognition of Black figures in history. Current disparities also underscore the importance of reclaiming narratives and addressing systemic issues. For example: 🚀 Black students in the UK are 3 times more likely to be excluded from school compared to their white peers. 🚀 The unemployment rate for Black workers remains significantly higher, at 8% compared to 4% for white workers. 🚀 Black women are four times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts, as noted by the MBRRACE-UK report. As we celebrate Black History Month, let’s take this opportunity to honour and reclaim the stories of Black individuals who have shaped British history and continue to contribute to society. 🎙️Let’s Talk: Imposter Syndrome with our MD 🎙️ This week's Let’s Talk webinar, was an open conversation led by Richard Carey Principal Consultant who interviewed Managing Director of our sister company (Gi Group Staffing), Pete Taylor (FIRP) and Solutions Director Dan Challis, about their personal experiences with Imposter syndrome. This encouraged other colleagues to share their own experiences candidly of imposter syndrome, reminding us that self-doubt can affect anyone, no matter their level of success. This honest conversation brought our colleagues closer, inspiring us to recognise and confront our own challenges while supporting each other in the journey toward greater confidence and self-belief.
