At Marsden we have always appreciated referrals into the business. We also take our ESG commitments seriously. As part of our ‘thank you’ from our London Associate team, for every personal recommendation we receive which results in a successful placement we plant 50 trees via JUST ONE Tree. This fantastic organisation helps to combat climate change and support the quest for net zero by 2050. Our referral tree forest has so far grown to 3080 trees planted - but more than just a number, the forest creates rural employment, gives homes to wildlife and marine life AND will absorb approximately 948.64 tonnes of CO2 as it grows. It's been so great to hear the feedback from those who have helped with this reforestation initiative. To find out more about JUST ONE Tree please visit https://lnkd.in/gJkiP4m For details of our referral rewards scheme, please contact any member of our London team: Alex Russell, Sally Gardner, Tim Andrews, Carl Pace, Michelle Mills #esg #trees #reforestation #referralrewards #legalrecruitment #marsden

You may have it easy and know you're not stretched in terms of time, effort or even intellectually, but this means that you get out of work at a reasonable hour and you have a life outside of the office. If you are a lawyer still at a critical learning stage in your career, this may not be a good thing. Your peers at other firms will be leaving you behind. If and when you come to interview with other firms, you may not come up to the mark, especially if the competition is stiff. So think carefully before you leave the cruise control on for too long and be prepared to indicate and move into a faster lane when the time is right. 𝗘𝗦𝗚: should General Counsel take more of a front seat - or provide a supporting role, particularly if there is already a Chief Sustainability Officer in place? As part of our partnership with Winmark, Marsden’s Sarita Rai is chairing a discussion on this topic in London next week (9 October) with speakers Mark Maurice-Jones, General Counsel and Compliance Officer, UK and Ireland at Nestlé, Tess Bridgman, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary at Cory, and Jessica Long, Head of ESG at Ipsos Strategy3. They will be discussing: • the importance of values and culture; • how legal can help with the G of ESG; and • the impact of partnership in ESG. The event is now full, but has been opened up to online attendees – if you would like to attend, please connect with Sarita or another member of our London in-house team – Karen Glass, Kate Bramwell or Amanda Chard. #esg #cso #generalcounsel #clo #inhousecounsel #legalrecruitment #marsden

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞? While the market for international moves has slowed compared to previous years, they are still possible in key areas for those with the right CVs. Firm background, experience and academics—as well as someone’s reasons for making a prior move—are all being examined more closely. Hiring is currently based on strategic needs and employee attrition rather than a desire for growth. It's still a good time to pursue a move to the UK. The Youth Mobility Scheme age of eligibility has been raised from 30 to 35, and both Australians and New Zealanders can also now stay for up to three years in the UK. • London law firms know that Australia produces bright lawyers educated at some of the world’s best law schools, who work hard and have a track record of doing well in the UK, particularly in transactional areas.    • Salaries are higher for similar work – and you are likely to be exposed to more complex transactional experience to enhance your skills.    • When you return to Australia/New Zealand you will take valuable client and referral relationships back with you which will help your progression towards partnership. If this sounds attractive and you would like to discuss your options please contact one of our Australian team: Jonathan Walmsley, Ben Smith, Daniel Hogan, Vijay Bragato or Petrina Chetty. They work together as one team with our London-based consultants Sally Gardner, Alex Russell, Tim Andrews and Carl Pace. #australianlawyers #overseasmove #internationallawyers #legalrecruitment #marsden

Head of US Practice @ Marsden | Legal Recruiting expert | Biglaw market commentator

I shared my thoughts last week with the The American Lawyer team on the trend of senior in-house practitioners joining biglaw firms as partners. A few additional thoughts: 1) One factor driving these moves is the increased regulatory climate. There are a number of in-house counsel who are highly experienced in areas like privacy and antitrust. Hiring these practitioners allows firms to put together and market a strong bench of regulatory specialists with industry specific expertise. 2) Another trend that may be influencing this is the fact that the competition for clients is increasing. We are moving further away from the model of institutional clients. Many companies now instruct multiple firms depending on specific areas of expertise. Biglaw firms are therefore strategically targeting senior in-house counsel to unlock additional revenue streams with an existing client e.g. a firm may be instructed on a company's M&A work but make a strategic hire in order to also get instructed on antitrust matters. 3) The article focuses on tech. However, we have observed this trend across a number of sectors such as the energy & infrastructure space.
