What a day yesterday at our SOLLA Later Life Conference! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for an event full of energy and engagement. With such a breadth of learnings and topics for discussion. From improving our health span as we get older, to pension income, housing in later life and safeguarding against economic abuse. From social care provision and the things that the new government need to be thinking about, to effective marketing and communication considerations for better conversations with later life clients. Our Honorary President Lord Lipsey announced that after 15 years of working with SOLLA, he’ll be standing down from his role. It’s been a wonderful 15 years and we’re so very thankful for all his involvement and everything he has done to support us. What a fabulous day meeting our Northern members at the ITV Coronation Street Experience. We were welcomed by Jason Spencer and Steve Picken who created an event packed with insights and treats. A fascinating panel discussion with the production and scriptwriting team brought the stories of the Street to life, as well as an understanding of how relevant product placement can work so well for brands who want to reach 7 million viewers each week. The highlight of the day (as well as a delicious lunch) was a surprise walk down the iconic Street itself, and the chance for a group photo outside the Rovers Return. Thank you ITV for a memorable day out with our members and for the Backing Business partnership which is proving so successful for brands which are new to TV advertising.

Too early for Christmas marketing? We had this discussion yesterday in our Velocity BNI Leeds business networking group. After it was mentioned four times in the space of ten minutes. On a personal level, seeing Christmas fayre before Halloween has always jarred a bit. A dedicated Christmas aisle in the supermarkets before it’s even the end of September. It just feels wrong on so many levels. But from a marketing perspective, it’s always about planning ahead. British chocolate brand, Quality Street, introduce a new tin design ahead of the festivities. According to the brand’s social media, “For 88 years a Quality Street tin has been a staple Christmas traditions, a symbol of festive cheer gifted to loved ones and shared around family gatherings.” The 2024 tin design is a nod to their Halifax heritage, where the brand was originated and the first tin was produced in West Yorkshire, England.
