This year, International Stress Awareness Week is Monday 4 to Friday 8 November, and National Stress Awareness Day is Wednesday 6 November 2024. The theme is ‘Campaigning to Reduce Stress and Improve Wellbeing’, which is something we wholeheartedly agree with, campaign for, and provide resources, training and blogs to support. These materials can be used during these awareness dates as well as throughout the year. During this important awareness campaign, we are encouraging our Supporters, partners and followers to normalise talking about stress and mental health. Talking about them will help to address the stigma, and therefore give people the confidence and reassurance that it is okay to start a conversation about stress and mental health. It is also important to take time to identify the root cause(s), address them and put measures in place to mitigate them in order to prevent them reoccurring. Be prepared. Powerful moment at Norwich City Football Club as they encouraged everyone in the stadium to #BreakTheSilence and start a conversation with the people around them on #WorldMentalHealthDay. Remember, it really is as easy is saying hello, and asking if the other person is okay. Always ask the question twice, as it is so easy to say 'yeah fine' when really we are not. Be a mate. Be the change.

Sometimes we just keep going through our day - looking after work, kids, pets, others we care for, friends.....barely taking the time to think about ourselves (I am totally guilty of this 😐 ) . Following hosting a successful GLC Europe HSE 360 conference this week with the lovely Keith Hole, where the importance of businesses promoting good mental health, wellbeing and the management of psychological risks was high on the agenda, I urge corporates and individuals to think about their own mental health and that of their employees today on #WorldMentalHealthDay and to continue implementing steps to mitigate risks to mental health, now and in the future. Shout out to Mates in Mind (where I sit as a Trustee) for all of the great work they are doing in this space 👍 👍 👍 #mentalhealth #worldmentalhealthday #healthandsafety #employers #riskmitigation #occupationalhealth #culture #psychologicalrisk

Today, 10 October 2024, is World Mental Health Day. This year the theme is 'It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace'. We wholeheartedly agree with this, which is why we advocate for creating positive mental health in and through work. This is why we work with organisations, of all sizes, to create a culture of prevention through providing all workers with the knowledge, tools and confidence to not only recognise mental ill-health in themselves but also in their colleagues. Through normalising conversations about mental health, it will remove the stigma that persistently surrounds it and empower more people to seek support if/when they need it.   Download our free #WMHD2024 poster and resource pack to start the conversation with your colleagues, friends, family and networks: https://bit.ly/WMHD24sm Be a mate. Thank you so much for your amazing support Michaela Wain, especially during what has been such a difficult time. Thank you also for being open and letting everyone know that it is okay to talk and being a role model for starting a conversation if or when someone needs to. Thank you again for everything you do.

Proud. Our WIC awards raised £10,596 for Mates in Mind this year. As most people know my son lost his dad to suicide at Christmas. It’s been a difficult and really sad and confusing time. Helping mates in mind and organising our awards really helped me to stay focused and concentrate on something positive. When you don’t know what to do start by being kind, it’s at least a start. It’s a difficult subject to speak about or even listen/read about. But it’s an important one to address. The facts are the facts. Construction has the highest suicide rates of all industries, it is the biggest killer of men under 40 and is a huge problem. I have personal experiences of this shattering lives. My Sons life will never be the same again. There is nothing I can do to fix this or change what has happened. It is such a final decision. Please if anyone you know or indeed yourself needs help then reach out to someone. There are loads of organisations and individuals out there who can help or just listen. It doesn’t have to be this way, we all need to do more. Especially in construction. I started seeing a “therapist” this year to help me process what was going on and help me sort through the 108765899876 million thoughts and feelings I was having. I couldn’t tell if it was helping or not at the start to be honest. And it was actually really stressful as I didn’t want to address it. Looking back it’s the best thing I did. Just dedicating time each week to discuss the dramas of the week and how I was feeling definitely helped to get it all out of my head and into the open, I would recommended, even for people like me who just simply can’t be arsed talking about stuff or just don’t want to acknowledge it, it was an important step for me to take. Anyway thanks to all those who donated in the night. We have made a real difference wether we see it or not. All love ❤️❤️

Today is World Mental health Day. As a marketer its your dream day right? Where you can post a nice branded image saying how much you support the transition to better mental health support and conversation. Instead, today, why not make a real difference and call a friend. Ask them if they are ok, then ask them if they are ok again! Just checking in with people can go a huge way in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and you never know you might just help that one person make it through the day in a better place (asking twice is just as important! It really helps). Alternatively check out Mates in Mind and see what you or your business can be doing for the industry and your teams Here are just a few great resources they can provide www.matesinmind.org

At Mates in Mind, we believe there is no health without mental health, and therefore, this November we’re supporting Men’s Health Month. Men’s Health Month is designed to raise awareness of three key health issues: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The aim of the month is to encourage men to start conversations about their health, and to seek support if they need it. This is at the heart of what we advocate for, and it is why we work collaboratively with organisations of any size to embed a proactive, prevention strategy which empowers them to create a supportive workplace culture which creates positive mental health in and through work. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dornan, for their continued efforts to honour Eoin. In 2018, Eoin died by suicide, there had been no 'warning signs'. After Eoin’s death, Dornan set up a mental health support structure for employees and each year it organises this football tournament to help us support the wider industry. For Tracy, Eoin's Mum, the tournament is an opportunity to get people talking: “Although it raises funds, it also creates conversations.” Josephine Kane, Magdalena Widawska and Melanie Gibbons

Dornan held its 5th annual Soccer tournament at Powerleague Shepherds Bush on the 14th of September to honour our colleague, Eoin Skerrett.   This year's event saw a record number of participants, with 15 teams competing. We were honoured to have Eoin’s parents, Tracy and Joey, present the winning trophy to Primden, marking their second victory. Special thanks go to Laura Howdill from Mates in Mind for her presence at the event. We are delighted to announce that £13,531.00 was raised for the charity. Our gratitude extends to all participants, team sponsors, especially our suppliers and subcontractors who played teams, paid fees, or contributed raffle prizes. Thanks are also due to Powerleague for hosting the event again.
