Today, we proudly celebrate a remarkable milestone for John Randle, Head of our Family Law practice, as he marks 40 years as a solicitor. With four decades of dedication and expertise, John remains passionate about advocating for families and looks forward to many more years of making a difference.
𝟰𝟬 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗡 Yesterday marked my 40th year as a solicitor. The Ruby anniversary is a significant milestone for lawyers and a time to reflect on life and the law. I have spent the last 40 years of my life in Family Law, in particular dealing with the financial issues that often surround divorce. I have worked with some great clients along the way and helped to get some really rewarding results for them. Many of my clients remain friends to this day, which is just about the best compliment you can have as a divorce lawyer! I qualified on 1 October 1984, just as my beloved Aston Villa entered a slump. For most of my time as a family lawyer I’ve had to endure midtable finishes (or worse). But to help me celebrate 40 years as a divorce solicitor, tonight I will be watching Villa host Bayern Munich. The last time Villa played Bayern, 1982, we won the European Cup. I was a student at Guildford Law College at the time, watching our record signing (£500,000!) Peter Withe scrape in the only goal of a scrappy match on a tiny TV. Recently I was saddened to learn of the passing of Gary Shaw, one of the Villa players that night who brought the famous trophy back to Birmingham that night. The spirit of that Villa side has always been my guide to family law: with the right team and tactics you can challenge any opponent. So, tonight I will celebrate 40 years as a solicitor by watching Villa host Bayern Munich under the lights of Villa Park, a momentous occasion that I’m happy to see for a second time in my life. Bayern are still a giant in European football and Villa are very much going in as the underdogs, but I’m more confident than I was 42 years ago. My prediction: Villa will win 2-1 and the Brummies will go home happy. Thanks to all my clients for the last 40 years, and I look forward to fighting for many more of you in the years to come.
