In 2019, UKGBC’s Advancing Net Zero programme released its Net Zero Carbon Buildings: A Framework Definition report. This was the first attempt at creating a definition of and process for delivering a net zero building in the UK market through consensus. 🏢In light of the forthcoming Standard, UKGBC intends to evolve the Framework Definition to ensure it continues to provide valuable guidance to those in industry seeking to design, deliver, or operate a net zero carbon building in the UK. Green light for new community park building in Islington Plans for a new community building set within the Wray Crescent Open Space in Finsbury Park were approved. The scheme will see the replacement of a derelict cricket pavilion with a new community hub to better support park users and community events. We're proud to have been involved in delivering cost management services for the development of this state-of-the-art Emergency Department. The completion of the second phase of work at the hospital, led by IHP (a partnership between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine), will significantly boost the hospital's ability to treat patients facing critical or life-threatening conditions. #healthcare #nhs #emergencycare #community #costmanagement
As we prepare for the opening of our new Emergency Department, we want to share a sneak peek inside the new building. The new ED has an increase in ‘majors cubicles’ from 15 to 22 (45 per cent), which are more private with glass doors instead of curtains, and individual environmental controls such as dimmable lighting. To support patients in a more critical or life-threatening condition, there is now an increase in resuscitation cubicles from four to seven. There will also be a secluded room for patients in mental health crisis, a more comfortable observation area and two supportive relatives’ rooms set away from the bustle of the main department.

It has been a fantastic couple of days attending BIM Coordinators Summit 2024 in Dublin, Ireland! I had the pleasure to be invited to speak on the Design Stage about how at McBains, we have evolved our BIM and Digital strategy from multi-disciplinary to INTER-disciplinary, by driving a One Model, Many Uses concept. This ensures that our clients and design teams have a clearly defined set of Project and Asset model strategies/requirements and can explore 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, 7D and 8D principles. As always, it was inspiring to connect with like-minded individuals and organisations to share knowledge on how we can tackle the real-world issues we face in the AEC industry together, with the ultimate ambition of creating better built environments for everyone. Great to catch up with old friends, Bruno M., Tarika Jain Bhartiya and Varun Bhartiya, but also form new relationships with others Gary Sprague, Pierre Venter, Alfonso Monedero, Mario Bracamontes, Pavlina Nikolovam and James Harty. A big thank you once again to Ralph Montague, Audrey Montague and Emma Montague for their dedication and commitment to host another years' conference!
