Cellulitis can be a common complication with 𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮 because the build-up of fluid in the tissues makes the patient more vulnerable to infection. Cellulitis is an acute spreading inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissues characterised by pain, warmth, swelling and erythema. Earlier this week, Kelly and Jennifer were invited along to present at the 𝗛𝗖𝗔 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 at Stanborough Conference Centre. The focus of the session was to talk about 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 of venous/arterial disease, importance of 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘀, skin care/emollients and responsibilities of HCA nurses when caring for these patients in the community. We particularly enjoyed the round robin sessions where Kelly & Jen spoke about compression & donning/doffing aids. #mediven #wounds #woundcare #compression

This month is “𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗨𝗽 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵”. This awareness month was created by the National Guardian's Office in response to recommendations made in Sir Robert Francis QC’s report “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗨𝗽”. Sir Robert found that 𝘕𝘏𝘚 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘶𝘱, and that patients and workers suffered as a result. This month is particularly relevant to Legs Matter’s point 9 in their 𝟭𝟬-𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻: 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢.
