It’s been a fascinating week for the MediaCity and Greater Manchester contingent at SXSW in Austin, Texas – full of insight, innovation and creativity.   We wouldn’t have expected anything less from a world-renowned festival celebrating global film, music, and tech.   We’ve learnt how big brands are using gaming platforms to resonate with notoriously hard to reach Gen Z’ers. BBC and Roblox is a fantastic example of this and gave real insight.   As the home of future media and immersive content #disney really resonated – blowing minds talking about the convergence of imagination, innovation and the future of experiential storytelling.   And this is just scratching the surface.   Important connections have been made. Austin Sister Cities International brought together Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Kirk Watson, Mayor of Austin, Kristie Bryant, Chair of Austin Sister Cities International, to share why Greater Manchester is excited to continue to share learnings, collaborate and build relationships with businesses and partners in Austin.   Earlier in the week, Andy Burnham and Cllr Bev Craig signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. Under the agreement, the cities will collaborate in key areas including economic development, innovation, education, tourism, arts and music, and urban development. The partnership aims to encourage knowledge sharing, business connections, and cultural exchanges that benefit residents and businesses in both cities.    We’re proud to be part of the GM story and during our time here, we’ll continue to stand by our partners showcasing our world class universities, cultural offer and why our City is a global magnet for people to live, work, study and invest.   Greater Manchester Combined Authority, @MIDAS, Marketing Manchester, SXSW, LandsecGM Business Growth Hub, @Gas Music , Play XD ➡️ SXSW, Austin TX 🍔 dock10 #swsw

MediaCity Innovation: 5G Powers First Multi-Location Immersive Rugby Watch Party MediaCity-based startup AIX LIVE, in collaboration with CoSTAR Realtime Lab, successfully connected rugby fans across Dundee, Salford, Cardiff, and Belfast for an interactive 6 Nations watch experience. Using advanced 5G technology, audiences engaged with Scotland vs Wales through massive LED volumes, dome experiences, and real-time interactive elements—all synchronised across multiple venues with minimal latency. This R&D project, following a successful music quiz trial with BBC 6Music's Chris Hawkins, demonstrates how immersive experiences can be authentically distributed to fans regardless of location, creating new possibilities for entertainment and sports viewing. "We want to develop technologies that bring audiences together, enjoying the same immersive experience but responding to their different needs," said David Norris, CEO of AIX Live. The collaboration showcases MediaCity's position as the UK home of future media innovation through partnerships between AIX Live, CoSTAR labs, Tay5G, dock10, and MediaCity Immersive Technologies. • Over 150 members of MediaCity’s media, tech and digital community turned up to be inspired by a stellar line up of women making serious waves in broadcasting: Jeanette Kwakye MBE (BBC Sport & 5 Live presenter and former Olympic sprinter) Victoria Hawkesworth (BBC Radio 1 Presenter) Punam Krishan (Author, GP, presenter on Morning Live and recent Strictly Star) The special event to mark International Women’s Day was delivered in collaboration with our friends at BBC Salford. Hosted by BBC Radio 5 Live presenter and broadcaster @Rachel Burden in MediaCity’s new Content Studio, the panel discussion kicked off with how Jeanette, Vicky and Punam broke into the broadcasting industry. Life lessons, reflections and personal stories flowed with candour and humour with no subject off limits. The conversation covered the importance of empowering young girls to believe in themselves, coping with career rejection, the menopause and the challenges of being a part of the ‘sandwich generation’ – caught between parental duties and looking after ageing parents. Managing motherhood with demanding careers, imposter syndrome and the importance of support networks and ‘how we can have it all but not at the same time,’ delved into the issues women face at some point in their lives. The discussions were open and honest with Rachel opening to the floor to expand opinion with many anecdotes shared. Finally, our panellists were asked to give their top tips on what women need to do to help them navigate complex times – notepads were at the ready! Happy International Women’s Day! “Remember: Whatever you do today, make it matter,” anon. #internationalwomensday #bbc #mediacitycontentstudio
