I can't quite believe that it's taken me 3 years to attend my first networking event in Bath, Bath Life , but it didn't disappoint! Really privileged to have lunch with Roger Saul, founder of Mulberry England and then multiple different projects since, including the UKs first spelt farm and now organic walnuts (good to have company bemoaning the changes to grants for farmers and sustainable food production in the UK). Two bits of advice really stood out: 1. Its all about the joy of life - every day you can enjoy and get the best out of your day 🔥 perhaps harder to do some days than others but I love the concept! 2. Running a business can sometimes be like being inside a submarine - it can feel like you are just surviving underwater, you have the periscope up and you can see all around you, but underneath you may be ploughing on starvation rations. One of the world’s most renowned photographers, Martin not only lives in Bristol but in 2017 he founded the MARTIN PARR FOUNDATION at Paintworks – not just an invaluable repository of archive photos but a gallery hosting a changing programme of brilliant exhibitions. New documentary #iammartinparr accompanies Martin on a road trip, meaning we can all come along for the ride – read all about it in our NEW ISSUE out today. Sticking with the movie theme, this year’s Oscars contenders ran a wide and tantalising gamut of scenic styles. It got us thinking: how much do fashions in interiors reflect, or even influence, the aesthetics in the movies? We decided that this was as good an angle as any on which to hang our spring interiors feature, so we did. Well, we say ‘finally’ – we’ve also been self-gifting for Mothers’ Day (honestly, it’s the best policy), celebrating Aardman’s double #baftas win, dining at Bandookkitchen, visiting the studio of Alipwm Pottery and chatting to playwright Julia Grogan, whose #Playfight is coming to Bristol Old Vic. Phoebe Waller-Bridge described it as “A blinding, sucker-punch of a play – honest, hilarious, heartfelt”, so it’s definitely worth 70 minutes of your time.
