Researchers have produced the first complete map of an entire adult fruit fly brain🪰🧠 It contains all 139,255 neurons and the 50 million connections between them. The whole fly map is a key first step to completing larger brains and will help advance our understanding of how neural circuits work. Congrats to MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB)'s Jason Chin & the Constructive Bio team on the significant investment to grow their innovative platform! Also great that MRC LMB alum and Nobel Laureate Sir Greg Winter is joining the Board.
We’re excited to announce a major milestone for Constructive Bio – the first close of our Series A round, securing $58M! 🚀 This funding marks a significant step forward in our journey to write entire genomes from scratch and produce proteins and peptides with new-to-nature functions encoded by new exotic chemical building blocks. We're incredibly grateful for the strong support from our investors, both new and existing, who share our vision for programmable biomolecules of the future made in green, cellular, recoded biofactories. This is just the beginning – with this investment, we’re poised to accelerate our growth, expand our team, and continue delivering functionalised proteins to our customers and partners. We’re also leaving the door open for additional exceptional investors as we prepare for the second close of our Series A. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey so far – the best is yet to come! 💪🌟 Ahren Innovation Capital, OMX Ventures, Paladin Capital Group, Fine Structure Ventures, +ND Capital, Jonathan Milner #SeriesA #Funding #Growth #Innovation #ConstructiveBio https://lnkd.in/edNTE8tn

We’re delighted to reveal the shortlisted PhD students for this year’s MRC Max Perutz Award!🎉 Congratulations to Divya Bhagtani at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, Connor Dalby at the University of Glasgow, Anna Edmondson at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Amy McCall at the University of Oxford, and Natasha Seaton at King's College London. The MRC Max Perutz Award recognises outstanding science communication from MRC PhD students. This year we piloted accepting videos entries only, with students asked to make a 60 second video that communicates their research to a public audience. It was fantastic to see so much passion and creativity in the entries we received. We’re looking forward to the awards ceremony in November. #MRCMaxP24
