This World Mental Health Day 2024 is focused on the workplace, and what better way to highlight Staff Development and Wellbeing— one of the DfE’s eight principles of a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. The wellbeing and engagement of school staff is integral to the success of any mental health initiative. Schools should support staff by providing training on mental health issues, promoting a healthy work-life balance, and offering resources to help staff manage their own wellbeing. A healthy, supported team is better equipped to meet the needs of their students. Here are some of our favourite FREE resources from our trusted friends across the mental health space. https://lnkd.in/dqJ9Jcw5 https://lnkd.in/g9UpTD6 https://lnkd.in/eMrv-Wkn https://lnkd.in/erHNwS9H https://lnkd.in/e4ZNNzYc https://lnkd.in/eAGDK22Z https://lnkd.in/eB79qZD9 To learn more about the DfE’s 8 principles, visit: https://lnkd.in/e8TRPetd #WorldMentalHealthDay2024

This morning a Guardian investigation revealed more than 500 children a day are being referred to NHS mental health services for anxiety. Schools are at the forefront of early intervention and actively seek the best solutions to support their pupils' emotional needs and to reduce these referrals. They do an amazing job, but more support and accurate data is needed to make a real impact. Our Child Outcome Record Data System (CORDS) allows schools to run assessments on every child. Within just 3 minutes a child can be assessed and placed into a recommended intervention. Let’s go one step further towards breaking through this epidemic once and for all. By assessing the mental health and wellbeing of every school child and detecting those important early signs, we can ensure the correct interventions are in place. Get on board with the whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. Rising School Suspensions and Exclusions: A Call for Change The latest statistics from the UK government reveal a concerning increase in school suspensions and permanent exclusions in England for the academic year 2022/23. With suspensions rising from 578,280 in 2021/22 to 786,961 and permanent exclusions climbing from 6,495 to 9,376, it is evident that so-called "disruptive behaviour" in schools is escalating. Persistent disruptive behaviour is now the most common reason for both suspensions and permanent exclusions, accounting for 48% of all suspensions and 39% of permanent exclusions. Recognising this behaviour as a potential sign of a unmet needs can lead to significant positive changes in a school's physical and emotional environment. The Urgent Call for Support Without the right environment, culture, ethos, and attitudes, children across the country are at risk of being excluded from education, leading to immediate and long-term negative effects on their lives. Schools need tools and knowledge to identify and address social, emotional, and mental health needs before they escalate into disruptive behaviour.
