With 25 million visits over six months and 192 countries as exhibitors, Expo 2020 Dubai left an invaluable legacy of a multicultural environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and advanced technological solutions. This heritage laid the foundation for Expo City Dubai - a human-centric smart city of the future. As part of the mission to redefine urban living, we collaborated to develop a mobile app that serves as a digital companion for visitors, business tenants, and residents. The primary goal was to enhance the customer experience by facilitating navigation within Expo City and notifying users about various events. Simultaneously, the app was intended to evolve into a super-app - a platform consolidating multiple services while seamlessly integrating with the comprehensive digital ecosystem of Expo City Dubai. Our approach focused on balancing current needs, cost, and time efficiency in preparing the MVP with long-term scalability. However, we also faced additional challenges, such as: ✔️ Preventing feature creep ✔️ Supporting up to 400,000 simultaneous users ✔️ Accommodating right-to-left scripts ✔️ Unifying data in the widely used Contentful CMS How did we manage to overcome them? The solution is now available on app stores and earned us a 10/10 NPS from the client, matched by a 4.5/5 satisfaction score from our internal project team. With an acceptance rate of just 11%, The Juilliard School stands as one of the most selective schools in the United States, admitting only 11 out of every 100 applicants. This rigorous requirement has shaped some of the most celebrated artists in the world (to name a few — Miles Davis, John Williams, Nina Simone, Kevin Spacey, and Robin Williams), with alumni earning an impressive: ✔️ 105 Grammy Awards, ✔️ 62 Tony Awards, ✔️ 47 Emmy Awards, ✔️ and 24 Academy Awards, + two alumni who have achieved the prestigious EGOT status. Juilliard’s program requires students to perform at least once to graduate, leading to over 300 performances each year. Ensuring the seamless coordination of such a vast number of performances is crucial for maintaining the school’s high standards. Ten years ago, Juilliard turned to us for help in developing an events calendar, which later evolved into a comprehensive recital management system integrated with their existing platforms. It streamlines the scheduling process and coordinates logistics between several internal departments, including the Concert Office and Registrar Office. The impact of these solutions has been tangible: after implementing the new system, Juilliard has seen a 25% increase in ticket sales and a 10% rise in website traffic. Today, we are working on implementing digital solutions for Juilliard’s branch in China. How to design dashboards that are both beautiful and usable? There are multiple challenges in translating complex data sets into clear and insightful dashboards. Whether it’s about showing energy usage in a photovoltaics app or medical risks in a healthcare system, the key is to choose the right kind of information for a particular user and present it in a way that supports decision-making. Over the years, our team has designed and implemented dashboards enriched with biases and data for various groups — fleet managers, financial advisors, construction goods manufacturers, facility managers, and many more. We are excited to share some highlights from our recent visit to our client, Biocore LLC, a pioneering biomechanics consulting firm. They provide top-tier engineering services and injury biomechanics expertise to help understand and reduce injuries. Our collaboration with Biocore spans several years, during which we’ve partnered on numerous innovative projects. One involves the BEAST, a surface testing machine for athletic fields, which you can see in the pictures. It offers professional athletic field managers critical insights into the safety and performance of their pitches. In our portfolio on the Merixstudio website, you can also find details about other projects we've done with Biocore, such as the MGS - mouthguard sensors that collect head impact data from professional athletes during practices and games. What's our role in this cooperation? We help to enhance the usability of Biocore’s innovations, ensuring they are intuitive and accessible. A key aspect of our contribution involves transforming raw biomechanical data from sensors into insightful and easily interpretable data visualizations. Our efforts have led to significant improvements, including a fourfold increase in data processing speed for analyzing sports-related impacts.
