  • Well done to Helen Seddon, Medical Photographer at MWL, who won two bronze awards at the Institute of Medical Illustrators’ Awards for two amazing ophthalmic photographs. The national awards recognise and showcase excellence in clinical photography, healthcare design and clinical videography. A delighted Helen said: “I have worked at the Trust for 11 years and it’s the first time I’ve entered the awards. It was great that my work was seen to be of such a high standard that I got awarded bronze! "Being recognised for this achievement is an outward sign to not only the patients I see, but staff I work with, that I continue to strive to produce the highest quality within my work”. Congratulations Helen on your fantastic achievement.👏 #TeamMWL

  • Whiston Hospital is the first in Merseyside to offer patients with suspected lung cancers a new diagnostic procedure called navigational bronchoscopy with radial probe. It is performed using the latest, advanced technology which helps clinicians to reach much deeper into the lungs to take vital tissue samples from lung abnormalities (nodules) to see if they are benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). The tissue obtained during this procedure can be used for diagnosis and staging of cancer disease all in one procedure. Dr Joanne Heaton, Respiratory Consultant, said: “Early diagnosis plays a crucial role in combating lung cancer, which claims the lives of 35,000 individuals every year in the UK. “We are delighted to be able to offer this procedure now. There are a host of benefits for our patients who previously would have been referred to hospitals outside of the area for similar investigations, which could have led to possible delays in their treatment.’’ Fantastic work team! #TeamMWL

  • Say hello to Lisa Chapple! 👋 Our latest #MWLPeople star! Lisa is Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist (OT) for Burns and Plastics. Her role is pivotal in the successful rehabilitation of patients who have suffered a serious burn. Lisa said: ‘Establishing early movement and daily routines following a burn injury is essential to promote healing, reduce stiffness and swelling, and optimise recovery. ‘I love how my role means that I interact with patients from the start of their time on the ward with us right through to their outpatient appointments when they’re living back at home. OTs focus on the whole person, encompassing the physical, emotional, and social aspects of their injuries. We can build a close connection and understanding, which complements the individualised care we provide. ‘I’m so grateful to the Trust for helping to support my OT training over 20 years ago – I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. Our service has a huge catchment area, including North Wales and the Isle of Man, and we’re really busy, but I am so proud of the work the entire multidisciplinary team does to help patients regain a sense of purpose, improve their quality of life, and return to independent living’. Each week we will be showcasing more of our amazing #MWLPeople working in a wide range of areas across the Trust so stay tuned. #TeamMWL #OTWeek

  • The Anaesthetics Departments at Southport and Ormskirk hospitals has been awarded the prestigious Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) in recognition of the outstanding service it provides to patients. ACSA is a unique scheme for anaesthetic departments in the NHS that enables them to measure their performance against defined standards and clinical guidelines, while getting the assurance they provide high quality patient care from an external peer review visit. During a special celebration event, Chief Executive Ann Marr OBE visited staff to recognise their impressive accomplishment and thank them for their continued dedication to providing the highest standards of patient care. Sue Curran, Directorate Manager for Theatres, said: “I could not be more delighted with the team’s achievement, it is the result of so much hard work. The ACSA standards are incredibly comprehensive, and it’s gratifying to have the work of our staff recognised as being deserving of this accreditation.” Well done team! 👏 #TeamMWL
