Pending in a dozen territories worldwide and now granted or allowed in three, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application WO/2020/201754 is a key component of MetalloBio's extensive intellectual property portfolio. As we approach the end of the pre-registration phase, we are preparing to launch the MetalloBio crowdfunding campaign very soon! Follow the link in our previous post to secure priority access when we go live early next week. The following are five reasons that we believe make MetalloBio a deserving investment proposition: 1. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified the spread of bacterial resistance to antibiotics as being a major global threat to human healthcare. Bacteria are less and less responsive to existing antibiotics, and this phenomenon continues to spread. Since the 1980s no new classes of widely effective antibiotics have been developed. As a result, there is a serious gap in medications for treating bacterial infections. 2. MetalloBio is developing two new classes of broad-spectrum antibiotic compounds; the first to come out of R&D in about 40 years. These compounds are based on totally new inorganic chemistry platforms and are effective against all the highest priority pathogens listed by the WHO. 3. The functional profile of MetalloBio compounds aligns well with treatment requirements for complicated bacterial infections; that is, those that involve several pathogenic species of bacteria. The company operates two business models, supported by distinct R&D programmes. One is for the development of next-generation broad-spectrum antibiotics; the other is for the creation of antimicrobial coatings of use in a range of medical products such as catheters and orthopaedic implants. 4. Complicated bacterial infections are not only a very major unmet clinical need, they represent commercial markets that are expected to be worth over $10 billion by the mid 2020s - a MetalloBio product could be reaching the market by the early 2030s. 5.
