  • To make a podcast content that really connects, you've really just got to focus on your listener. What do they really want? Just like any business with their target clients, it's about understanding your listeners' needs, their pain points and what kind of content will really sing to them. Think about what keeps them up at night, what problems they're trying to solve or what kind of stories will inspire and move them. This is way to creating that all important “engaging content” we hear so much about! At MIC media, we put this at the heart of our work.     Over the last few months I've been working with the most wonderful bunch of humans to train them with the skills to create their own podcast. The group, with lived experience of hardship, want to inspire others who are looking for hope. This session was all about kit. There was lots of heebeejeebess, none of them had any prior experience of podcasting, let alone setting up recording equipment. By the end of the day they'd set up the kit and recorded two interviews. They surprised themselves because they already knew a lot already, from the microphone that looked the same as the one, one lady uses in her band, or how the zoom recorder, records in tracks, which is how you edit a video on Tik Tok. It was one of those sessions, where I was like "yep, this is why I started MIC media" One of the girls said to me "You're looking at us like you'd look at your toddler who's taken their first steps." They're busy putting the finishing touches to their first two episodes, including all of the editing. This is the power of podcasts. It's not the big sponsors, millions of downloads, the celebs, podcast bro's or the ongoing argy bargy about video. It's the genuine difference a simple microphone can make. That's why we do what we do at MIC media.

  • Our number 1 bit of advice for podcasters....😘😘😘😘 A big smoochy KISS. Keep It Super Simple (Or Keep It Simple Stupid) It's a powerful, tried and tested design principle that says that most things work better if they’re kept simple, rather than complicated. This applies to everything from products and websites to, you guessed it, podcasts! Simplicity can help you to learn, design, launch and market more efficiently. Simple is good for you as a creator. The more bits and bobs you have in your podcast, the harder it’s going to be for you to make it. You’ll struggle to keep up and your podcast will sadly become a podfade statistic. Don’t forget that the more complicated it is, the harder it’ll be for you to define the concept and tell other people about it - the important marketing piece. Simple is also fab for your listener. Let’s take your content for example, if it’s simple to follow, your listener will enjoy your content more and be more likely to return.   • There’s a shift you make when you start creating podcasts. You are now a creator - as well as a consumer. However, you must put yourself in the consumer’s shoes to create killer content. One of the easiest ways to understand what works (and also what doesn’t) is to simply tap into your experiences as a consumer. Think about your favourite podcasts. What keeps you coming back for more? Then, think about the last thing you switched off. What made you stop listening?
