The Academy is part of the Mid & South Essex Integrated Care System where NHS organisations, in partnership with local councils and others, take collective responsibility for managing resources, delivering NHS standards, and improving the health of the population they serve. Our Health & Care Academy offers people living in our local communities the opportunity to learn more about the varied careers on offer in the NHS and social care, see some of the things that healthcare professionals do, learn some essential life skills and find out more about what they are interested in. The Academy is for anyone in Mid & South Essex who is in need of career guidance or for those who may be interested in working in health or care across the region. The Academy is also designed to support the career development of our existing staff, providing access to opportunities such as apprenticeships, training schemes, specialist or management training and leadership development.

Today is the second instalment of the Healthcare Careers in Focus Programme, our Mid and South Essex Health & Care Academy collaboration with the other East of England Health & Care Academies. These sessions are aimed at college and sixth form students studying healthcare related programmes and each week we are taking a deep dive into different careers in the #NHS and Social Care. Today we are having a look at some of the careers in the Allied Health Professions, in particular, #Physiotherapy, Operating Department Practitioner (#OPD) and #Dietetics. The Ambassadors on the call are providing fantastic insights into their career journey, what they love about their role and also providing a case study based on real life situations their have encountered during their career. Our next Healthcare Careers in Focus session takes place on Wednesday 6th November 2024 between 3.30pm and 4.30pm and will be looking at careers in Medical Physics. If you are a student in the East of England region and you would like to attend the future sessions of the Healthcare Careers in Focus programme, contact us for the registration link.

Another busy day for me today again. Year 8 assembly at The Gateway Academy #thurrock this morning and then spending the rest of the day at South Essex College of Further and Higher Education Southend launching the Mid and South Essex Health & Care Academy College Enrichment Programme to three classes of their Heath & Social Care year 1 students and speaking to Ofsted as part of the colleges current inspection process. Looking forward to discussing with the students all the ways in which the Academy can support them this academic year and to show them all of the exciting learning opportunities and events we have for them to explore careers in healthcare. #engagement #enrichment #healthcare #opportunities #learning #nhs #socialcare #essex #southend

It’s been a very busy start to the week for me with a morning full of positive engagements! First thing, I was delivering an assembly presentation to students in Year 7 at the Gateway Academy, #Thurrock to introduce them to the vast number of career roles available in the NHS and Social Care that they can consider in the future as it’s never too early to start thinking about a career! After this, I visited USP College at Palmers’ Campus to launch the Mid and South Essex Health & Care Academy College Enrichment Programme to students on their Health and Social Care year 1 programme. The Academy have lots of exciting learning opportunities for young people to access this year to further their knowledge and interest in NHS and Social Care careers and I’m looking forward to working with the students on some of our projects in the coming months. It was also lovely to catch up with Linda Hammond and Charli face to face afterwards and to hear about the college plans for their upcoming CPD days and to explore how and where the Academy could link into these early next year to provide depth to the students studies. Great to see that there are lots of areas where we can collaborate on programmes and help join up the dots between college and a career in the NHS and Social Care. #engagement #healthcare #nhs #socialcare #healthsocialcare #learningopportunities #essex
