MJ Patch worked with Thatchers Cider Company to design, manufacture, and install bespoke external staircases, balustrading and architectural screening for the extension of their Jubilee building. Working in collaboration with Craddys on the structural design, the aim was to create staircase structures that are both practical and visually appealing. The balustrade design was developed working alongside Thatchers and their architect, exploring various ideas before agreeing on a simple yet effective solution. The final design featured horizontal rails paired with precision-cut 'Thatchers Gold' cider can profiles, which were manufactured in-house on our CNC plasma cutting machine. For the undercroft car park screening, we worked closely with Thatchers’ chosen supplier of laser-cut panels. We provided precise site measurements and structural details to ensure a perfect fit. One elevation of the screening was designed to match the balustrade, incorporating 'Thatchers Gold' cider can profiles and horizontal rails to maximize airflow while maintaining a cohesive design. All the metalwork was hot-dip galvanized and finished with an architectural-grade powder coating, perfectly matched to the building’s rainscreen cladding for a durable and polished finish. We believe that the end result is a standout feature of the site, and has received extremely positive feedback from Thatchers staff, visitors, and members of the public.
