Today Finn Lützow-Holm Myrstad from Forbrukerrådet/Norwegian Consumer Council and mnemonic’s Tor E. Bjørstad presented for the 7th time at Forsvarets Sjefskurs/the Senior Executive Course at the Norwegian Defence University College Forsvarets høgskole (FHS)). We appreciate the invitation, and thank you to all participants for good and important discussions.
Director of Digital Policy at Forbrukerrådet | EU co-chair of the digital committee of the TACD | TED speaker | Mozilla25 Riseup Awardee | former Norwegian Privacy Commission | LSE MSc
Just presented our joint work with Tor E. Bjørstad from mnemonic on how data is collected from commercial sources, such as apps and websites, and how it can be used to manipulate & discriminate and be a threat to national security at Forsvarets Sjefskurs today (the Senior Executive Course at the Norwegian Defence University College). The talk was a part of a full-time, three-month training of executives and high-level staff from the armed forces, and private and public sector on security issues. 🔑 One key message from me was that the commercial surveillance is even more out of control now than when we published our report and complaints against Grindr and the adtech sector. This is likely to increase with more devices (in our homes and close to our bodies in particular) are connected, able to collect and share data, in combination with increased use of AI to possibly make abuse even easier and broader. My clear recommendation is that this business model and practice needs to be banned. #privacy #security #gdpr
