Too often, we read about organisations working hard to achieve global positive impact, but overlooking what's going on in their own operations. Determined that Moa will never be one of these, we have just achieved Gold standard certification from MyGreenLabs. This itself is considered the gold standard for laboratory sustainability best practices globally and has been named by the UNFCCC as one of the key breakthroughs required in the pharma and biotech sectors to help the world reach net zero by 2050. It is a fantastic achievement in our first year of applying for certification, showing the progress we have made across 19 different areas including water use, cold storage, plug loads, waste reduction, green chemistry and resource management. Our next round of international field trials is just about to start and it's even bigger than the last one, with new locations in the southern hemisphere (Australia and Paraguay) as well as follow-up trials in northern hemisphere sites across the US and Europe during the winter growing season. Internationally renowned for his work on plant metabolism at Oxford University, Prof Sweetlove will be working with Moa scientists on further understanding the dozens of novel herbicidal modes of action that we have discovered, and from which we are developing safe, effective and affordable solutions to fight crop-killing weeds. We can’t take these advances for granted - and we must keep working to find new ones.
For 10,000 years, organic farming was our only option. But only in the last 50 years, thanks to science, have we achieved true food security in the West. In the 20th century, life expectancy soared by over 35 years. Why? Because of five major advances: → Food security. → Pest control. → Clean water. → Antibiotics. → Vaccines. These breakthroughs didn’t just improve our lives - they’ve been vital to our survival. The food on your plate, the medicine in your cabinet, the clean water you drink. All of this exists because of science. These advances saved millions of lives. We can’t afford to let fear or misinformation undo the progress that keeps us healthy and fed.
