IGNITION, The University of Salford’s summer school programme, returned this summer for three-days of learning, innovation and fun. Nice to see my employer Morson Projects and my old lecturers from The University of Salford working in tandem to promote an important subject such as the future of renewable and sustainable energy technologies. I very much enjoyed my time working with Prof Anwar Beg on my Master's dissertation, focused on using computational fluid dynamics to study the thermo-gas dynamics of flow within rocket nozzles of various sizes. I'm sure this was a very insightful and informative event.

🌍 Engineering Computation Society Hosts Groundbreaking "Engineering Computation and Renewable Networking Event" 🌍 On July 31st, 2024, the Engineering Computation Society (ECS) at the University of Salford hosted an exceptional event, the "Engineering Computation and Renewable Networking Event." This gathering brought together experts and innovators to explore the intersection of engineering computation and renewable energy, offering invaluable insights into the future of sustainable technologies. 🎓 Prof. Dr. Anwar Beg —Leader of the Multi-Physics Engineering Science Group (MPESG)—kicked off the event with an inspiring talk on the opportunities in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) within renewable energy. His presentation delved into cutting-edge topics such as: - Solar Photovoltaic Mega-Yacht Thermal Modelling - CFD Simulation of an Ocean Wave Energy Conversion Device - Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) in Wind Turbines 💡 Dr. Sireetorn Kuharat , the ECS supervisor and a valued member of MPESG, followed with a concise and impactful presentation on hydro cyclone simulation design, setting the stage for further showcases from the ECS team. 🏢 Chris Summers CEng FRAeS , Head of Engineering at Morson Projects, provided a powerful industry perspective with his presentation on the current challenges facing the engineering sector, particularly in aerospace. His insights into the evolving landscape of engineering left a lasting impression on all attendees. 🔧 Shabbir Ahmed, Chairperson of ECS, introduced the society, highlighting its rapid growth and remarkable achievements in a short span of time. His team then presented their work on Axial Wind Turbine analyses, complete with impressive CFD simulations. 🌪️ Pramodh Wickramarachchi's team showcased the innovative design of helical wind turbines, demonstrating the potential for new approaches in renewable energy. 🌊 Sundaravijayan Swaminathan's team presented advanced simulations of Tidal Energy underwater turbines, contributing to the exploration of sustainable energy solutions. ☀️ Shwetaa Raaj's team offered insights into solar panel technologies and showcased their own simulations, rounding out an event filled with groundbreaking ideas and forward-thinking solutions. This event was not just a gathering, but a pivotal moment in the journey toward a more sustainable future, powered by engineering innovation. Last week our Jig & Tool team were invited to the annual Spirit AeroSystems' Charity Golf Tournament at Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club 🏌🏼⛳ The sun was shining, the course looked fantastic, and it was a great opportunity to catch up with familiar faces from across the industry. Most importantly, the day fundraised for the Megan's Space charity who do amazing work in the local area supporting young people. Well done to everyone for getting involved!

Earlier this month, Samual Airaud and Rozana Zyka from our EDF Hinkley Point C team, joined Andy Hassall and Andy Hartley from our Morson Projects team as they fundraised a fantastic total of £5,498 for Brainwave. The group completed the 200-mile fundraising cycling challenge with an average of 5 – 7 hours of cycling each day. Rozana Zyka, Civil Engineer shared: “My words don’t do justice as it has been a unique experience!!! We started with heavy rain and headwind in Brussels (very challenging) but we finished with a sunny day in Amsterdam. Get a bike and save the date for next year (10th-14th of July). Brainwave Charity Ride will be in France!” Andy Hassall, Business Development Director shared: “Through wind, rain, and sun, we pedaled with purpose for Brainwave.
