The Story is now locked in place, and we’re well into the Design Stage. In this stage, the magic of visual storytelling begins to take shape. If the first phase focused on the message and the audience, this stage is all about what you’ll see. It’s the visual backbone of the project, the stage where the look, feel, and style come together in a way that will captivate and engage. This stage is critical, but it’s often rushed or overlooked... especially when budgets are tight or deadlines loom. But here’s the truth: spending time to think creatively during this phase can make the rest of the production smoother and faster. A thoughtfully designed animation, no matter how simple its movement, will age gracefully. It will remain timeless, while a flashy, poorly designed animation with overly complex motion risks looking cheap or outdated as soon as trends shift. So, what are we aiming to create during the Design Stage? A Storyboard that guides you through every scene, step by step, so you can visualise the entire animation from beginning to end. A clear Style Guide, a visual blueprint that ensures consistency and serves as a reference for the final product. Once these are approved, the real artistry begins behind the scenes: we’ll start crafting the artwork while the Audio Stage continues to progress. #animation #animationproduction #design #behindthescenes

The Climate Change Committee's Seventh Carbon Budget report, published last week, called for effective public engagement on Net Zero. Every production we take on follows the same 4 stage process, and our current project with Cardiff Council isn't any different. We're in the midst of the Story stage, where the message is locked in, the idea's shared and concepts are brought to life. The goal is simply 'Get clear on what we are trying to say, who we are saying it to and what we hope to achieve'. This ensures that all the following stages move things forward in the right direction. What is the typical result of the Story stage? A clear script, articulating everything you will hear. A collection of mood boards that collate brand references, our research, the content already in the marketplace and our vision to move things forward.
