As International Walk to School month comes to an end, we have delivered a successful walking bus initiative as a part of Havering Council’s Air Quality Delivery Programme. A walking bus runs just like a normal bus, with a designated route and stops, but where children exercise, socialise, and develop valuable knowledge about road safety. Across five morning sessions, we had 36 students and 8 parents get involved with the Rainham Village Primary School Walking Bus. It was amazing to have so many families attend and to discuss local air quality levels, road safety issues and journey experiences with them. We are committed to making active travel more accessible and it was great to provide a fun and safe way for students to walk to school, whilst bringing members of the school community together. #WalkToSchoolMonth #ActiveTravel #WalkingBus

Last week, along with Mattinson Partnership we had a charity focus. In honour of World Food Day on Wednesday, we had a non perishable food collection which we then donated to The Bridge, a big thanks to Ted and his cargo bike for making the delivery. Also Friday 18th October marked Wear It Pink day in support of Breast Cancer Now. The team were encouraged to wear a splash of pink to the office and had the opportunity to make a donation to support research into Breast Cancer.

Last week, MP Smarter Travel wrapped up our final stakeholder workshops for the Lewisham School SuperZone project! As one of the final outputs, we provided each school with a large banner featuring a walking map, co-designed with students and informed by street audits and air quality analysis. These maps highlight low pollution, healthier routes to school and encourage active travel. Through this project, students and the wider school community learnt about School SuperZones, the causes, impacts of solutions to air pollution, and the benefits of walking. It’s been amazing to see young people engaged in creating healthier, safer environments around their schools. #ActiveTravel #AirQuality #SustainableTravel #SchoolSuperzones #CommunityEngagement #Lewisham

MP Smarter Travel reposted this
This was a lovely way to end MP Smarter Travel's work on East Herts District Council's Breathe Clean project. Priors Wood Primary School did a brilliant job in their Air Quality Awareness work. Their prize win was fully deserved. https://lnkd.in/g4_biCfg Well done to my team on this project - Amy Cunningham, Alice Chevallier, not forgetting Ellie Gooch's hard work before I took over management of the project earlier this year.

Great to see some lasting changes being made! #CargoBikes #SustainableTravel
Earlier this year, we launched our Cargo Bike for Business scheme with Bristol City Centre BID to help businesses switch to sustainable delivery methods. 💚 Thanks to expert advice from MP Smarter Travel, BBC Studios here in Redcliffe was one of the first businesses to get involved in our initiative. Following tailored support, BBC studios: 📦 Switched to using Zedify’s cargo bike delivery service for deliveries between their Bristol sites. 🚲 Replaced their previous van courier service with cargo bike. ✅ Received positive feedback from internal staff with the scheme exceeding expectations. 💰 Saved significantly on costs compared to their previous supplier. This scheme is free of charge and open to all businesses in the Redcliffe & Temple BID or Bristol City Centre BID areas. 👉 Find out more https://ow.ly/GuH650TLFno #LoveBristol #Sustainability

Thank you to Altrincham BID for hosting us and helping make the Trafford CargoCycle project such a success! Ronan, our project manager for the CargoCycle Trafford was thrilled to see so many local businesses interested in making the switch to sustainable deliveries. Businesses across Trafford can access subsidies and free consultancy from MP Smarter Travel to help integrate cargo bikes into their supply chains. It’s a win for the environment and for business! https://lnkd.in/eh4CASRx #CargoCycle #SustainableFreight #Altrincham #Trafford #CargoBikes #GreenerTransport #Manchester
Ronan from MP Smarter Travel was in Altrincham yesterday engaging with businesses about the Trafford CargoCycle project and using the cargo bike which is available to Altrincham BID businesses. The bike is designed to carry up to 180 kgs, including the rider, and is available for hire on a daily basis. Altrincham Cargo Bikeshare is the first shared bike scheme of its kind in Greater Manchester and is designed to encourage local businesses to switch to making more sustainable deliveries via cargo bike. The scheme has been made possible through a joint application by Altrincham BID and Bruntwood to Transport for Greater Manchester’s Community Access Grant. October marks International Walk to School Month, a global celebration of walking to school and the health benefits this brings and aims to encourage more children to walk to school and to make this possible across the world. In many of our projects, we aim to actively encourage school pupils to walk to school and teach them how to find the safest routes. Most recently we have been working with Brent Council to create Walking Maps for 104 Schools across Brent available in both print and digital formats. The Brent Walking Maps website can be found here: www.breathecleanbrent.org #WalkToSchool #ActiveTravel

We are thrilled to be a part of Pedal Your Parcel. If you're a business based in Camden and are considering switching to Cargo Bikes get in touch with Sam Brown to see how we can help! sam.brown@mpsmartertravel.co.uk | 0207 960 2583 #PedalYourParcel #CargoBikes
📣 We are excited to introduce Pedal Your Parcel, a new initiative aimed at supporting local businesses to adopt more sustainable delivery methods by using cargo bikes in place of vehicles. Our initiative, in partnership with MP Smarter Travel, offers a free advice service to help businesses integrate cargo bikes into their supply chains and financial support with a 50% subsidy on the purchase or lease of a cargo bike. All businesses in the borough are eligible and we will help any interested business identify the best cargo bike options, connect with suitable providers, and set up their delivery service. Councillor Adam Harrison, Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden said: "Pedal Your Parcel is an innovative scheme designed to help businesses save time and money, enhance local air quality and reduce carbon emissions, which are key targets for us. "Cargo bikes are a fantastic eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional vehicles and offer many other benefits including efficient deliveries in busy urban areas, and no parking costs."

To celebrate World Car Free Day 2024, we organised various events at schools across Hammersmith and Fulham throughout September. At each of these events, we provided cargo bike test rides for families and shared information on the council’s subsidy scheme and how they can apply. Two of these trial sessions were combined with Play Streets which created safe spaces for children to play freely together outside of school. The children cycled, scooted, skipped, hula-hooped, drew on the roads with chalk, played hopscotch and bounced on space hoppers whilst feeling safe due to a road closure preventing vehicles coming down the road. We have one more event in this series which was designed to promote the benefits of cargo bikes to both families and businesses and was able to showcase the different bikes. The event takes place this Friday at Wormholt Park for parents/guardians. #CarFreeDay #CargoBikes #ActiveTravel
