It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our friend and colleague, Jo Peters, a visionary geneticist whose work in mammalian genetics and genomic imprinting had a profound impact on the field. Jo was also a generous mentor, shaping the careers of countless students and colleagues with her wisdom, patience, and kindness. We will forever remember her sharp intellect, her warmth, and her humour. https://lnkd.in/dPEYbUuP

For many people reading this ‘rare disease’ won’t mean much to you and why should it? If something is rare it’s probably unlikely to impact you or your family, or anyone you know, perhaps? But the reality is that whilst each rare disease is certainly rare, there are around 10,000 rare diseases each affecting someone’s life, leaving someone’s parents and siblings worried and struggling. When the data tells us that 1in17 people could have a rare disease in their lifetime, that’s 2 children in a classroom… that’s not so rare. So today on #RareDiseaseDay, give a moment to think about people who live with a rare condition, to those who care for them, to those who treat them, and help manage their condition. There is so much work to still be done to get better access to diagnosis, and treatment so each day counts. But today matters more than most. #RareDiseaseDay #AlexionUK
💜🌍 Today is Rare Disease Day! 🌍💜 Together, we stand with the 300 million people worldwide living with rare diseases. In uniting on this day we can raise awareness, advocate for change, and promote a more equitable future! ⚖️ Let’s use this moment to recognise and highlight the voices and stories of the rare disease community. Share your story. Share your advocacy. Share your voice. Go to our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gk6hbAF #RareDiseaseDay #LightUpForRare

#RareDiseaseDay Visit the National Mouse Archive for mouse strains that serve as valuable tools in investigating #RareDiseases. A mouse model with a frameshift mutation in the Nfix gene has phenotypic features of Marshall-Smith Syndrome, a rare genetic multiple congenital anomalies syndrome characterized by abnormal bone maturation, developmental delay, and distinctive facial features. https://lnkd.in/d3EgA38W https://lnkd.in/drC6JS_H #MouseMuse
