Members of the North Foreshore WwTW Upgrade Integrated Delivery Team recently swapped the office for the great outdoors, as we, along with colleagues from other partners & Northern Ireland Water took part in a volunteering day to support the RSPB.
The day started with a visit to the RSPB’s ‘Window to Wildlife’, home to birds and wildlife from around the world. The team helped remove the invasive ragwort weed before focusing on the Whitehouse Lagoon, adjacent to Whitehouse WwTW. A successful beach comb saw the team tidy along the shoreline, collecting litter and waste from the beach. The Whitehouse Lagoon is a popular feeding ground for many different species of birds, including Great Crested Grebes, Oystercatchers and Black-tailed Godwits.
It was great to be able to help and support the RSPB and to learn more about the important work the charity carries out across Northern Ireland. The team got a real buzz 🐝 from the volunteering, and seeing the impact of their efforts made the day even more worthwhile.
