Last Friday, we introduced the 10 UK finalists of the #AqualunarChallenge at the Farnborough International Air Show ✈️ The session was hosted by Meganne Christian, Reserve Astronaut and Exploration Commercialisation Lead at the UK Space Agency, and gave the finalists the chance to share their ideas with a public audience. The finalists now have seven months to develop their solutions, with the help of an extensive programme of non-financial support, before we choose a grand prize winner and two runners-up in Spring 2025. Learn more about the teams: https://bit.ly/3RJVBSt The Canadian track of the Challenge, which is led by the Canadian Space Agency, has also announced its semi-finalists. NAICKER SCIENTIFIC LTD has advanced to the finals of the @spacegovuk #AqualunarChallenge, which is being delivered by @challenge-works🏆 The £1.2m international challenge prize, which launched in January of this year, is rewarding the development of new technologies that could reliably supply water to a permanent crewed base on the Moon by purifying ice frozen in the lunar soil. UK-led teams behind the ten most-promising ideas have received seed funding to develop their ideas. In Spring 2025, three teams will be named winner and runners up, sharing additional funding to take their solutions to the next level. As well as having applications for exploration of the Moon and beyond, the technology will have wide application here on Earth – wherever lightweight, robust, low-power water purification is needed.
