Planning for a Modern Economy: Lichfields' Expert Framework As outlined in the consultation draft of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), local planning authorities are now required to identify sites for commercial development that meet the evolving needs of a modern economy. At Lichfields, we draw on our extensive experience in commercial development and economic planning to offer a flexible, staged framework designed to help local authorities identify and assess the demand for modern economy land uses. Our tailored analysis provides vital evidence to support strategic and local plans, updates to economic strategies, growth plans, and assessments of future infrastructure needs. It also strengthens the case for investment and land allocation decisions. Contact us to discuss how we can help you plan for a modern economy. https://lnkd.in/eyUhRrNR

There has been plenty of conjecture about the proposed NPPF changes and whether the Government’s 1.5 million delivery target is within reach, but what hasn’t hit the headlines is the implications for our major urban areas. With a renewed emphasis on ‘brownfield first’ being the starting point, many urban Council’s will need to work harder than ever to provide the homes that society needs. Exciting developments in the co-living sector! At Lichfields, we are seeing a growing demand for co-living opportunities and are proud to be advising on several live projects across London. Most recently, we secured planning approval from the London Legacy Development Corporation for a Purpose Built Shared Living scheme in Hackney Wick, on behalf of Halcyon Development Partners. Designed by Morris+Company, the development features two warehouse-style buildings connected by a 7th-floor bridge, providing 337 co-living studios, high-quality amenities, a new public square, and public access to the River Lee Navigation.   If you’re considering a co-living project and would like to discuss how we can support you, feel free to reach out to Adam Donovan and Georgia Crowley.

Very pleased to have been part of the team which secured resolution to grant permission at LLDC's Planning Committee for Halcyon Development Partners co-living scheme in Hackney Wick. The scheme will provide 337 co-living studios alongside the delivery of affordable workspace delivered by Hackney Wick & Fish Island Community Development Trust. This is a great example of a high-quality co-living scheme, by a leading developer in the sector, which will help meet the need for this form of housing in Hackney. The scheme will also include an interesting Local Street Art Strategy which I look forward to seeing. Halcyon Development Partners Morris+Company

If you’re interested in how housing can better support an ageing population, Charlotte Walker latest blog is a must-read. She explores Appleby Blue Almshouse in Bermondsey—a standout example of affordable housing designed to promote health and wellbeing for older residents. After seeing it win big at the Housing Design Awards last week (taking home both the Winner of Winners and HAPPI awards), Charlotte dives into what makes this project exceptional. Her blog also looks at key trends in urban regeneration and innovative design. It’s a thoughtful take on how great housing can shape better lives. Charlotte will be attending the Joint Planning Law Conference Oxford this weekend with Matthew Spry and Jennie Baker and would love to chat about this project, as well as other exciting Lichfields initiatives. If you're attending and want to connect, feel free to reach out! https://lnkd.in/eviSkH5W

Linking back to my Lichfields UK blog from July - we can now celebrate the success of Appleby Blue Almshouse following the Housing Design Awards presentation event last Thursday.   When the time came for the Minister of Housing, Matthew Pennycook, to present the winner of winner award and the HAPPI award it was great to see Appleby Blue Almshouse receive the recognition it deserved in front of 150 guests and 50 residents.   Don't miss out on the video link in the blog… https://lnkd.in/gKDSFVk7   Further reading - Lichfield’s second edition of ‘Solutions to an Age Old Problem’ (‘SOAP2’): https://lnkd.in/gKDSFVk7

Housing is an essential human right that forms the foundation of strong communities and a competitive economy – stable, good quality housing supports the physical and mental wellbeing of residents and enables them to contribute to society. However Wales, alongside the other British nations, is facing a housing crisis. The severity of this crisis is recognised by Welsh Government which has an admirable ambition to facilitate the delivery of affordable housing and support those most in need. This insight focus, led by Gareth Williams and Rhiannon Harrop-Griffiths, identifies eight specific issues to the delivery of affordable housing delivery across Wales as well as highlighting the potential for change.
